Even Newer Tavern Thread: The Hanged Man

Just as he is about to order another beverage, Kruk hears the words of the warforged. After a pause, hee turns to him and states. "You've done your research warforged. Raiyek is the best. Woe to the evil forces who stand in his way." He looks at the elf with respect and raises his mug to him.
Incarnation nods. Words of deeds are whispered by many, but signs of him and the staff of flame have been with me of late. The stone burner is the other I wait for.

"Hmph, and just when it was getting quite in here" D'keth comments as the newcomers stream in loudly.

Raijin turns away from Kruk and faces Zhen I will wait out in the courtyard, but if one should come that seeks our group please alert me. The pale man leaves the Tavern.

As soon as he departs a short dwarf comes puffing into the room. He has shimmering red robes and a staff infused with flames. After coming in and scanning the room, he moves over the Raiyek, Kruk, and Carolina. My legs are still short and I have not yet boots like Kruk. My apologies for falling behind. He hoists himself up onto a barstool Ah barkeep, please bring me a glass of wine and some sandwiches.

[sblock=OOC] Georg Stoneburner, 4th level wizard, level pending [/sblock]

The door opened, and a barely visible halfling rushed in. The small man jumped from time to time, trying to get a better view of the patrons. Finally spotting Kruk, the Halfling weaved through the crowd, making his way over to the dwarf.

"Are you Kruk? My name is Landon, I bring ill tidings from Allaria. The drawf Greggor requests your assistance, urgently." At the cue of Kruk's facial expression, the halfling continued.

"I am a courier by trade, and I was delivering a message to the Twinbeard Silvermine. While waiting to be taken to mine owner, Mr. Greggor beseched me to find you and deliver his message. At the conclusion of my assignment with the mine owner, I booked passage on The Wind's Will, which brought me from Geardagas, [FONT=&quot]Allaria to you, Mr. Kruk."

As the news hit Kruk, Landon hit him with another blow, "So, Obviously, Mr.Greggor was in no position to pay me for my services, and while I realize how poor my timing is... a halfling cannot survive on good will alone. I'm afraid good deeds don't pay for meals, in-and-of-themselves."The halfling presented his open, empty palm.

[sblock=OOC]The adventure is still being approved, but I thought I would start the pre-adventure dialog now. [/sblock][sblock=OOC]

There is room for one more (and unfortunately only one more), if one of Kruk's former companions feels so inclined. That said, the additional player is optional.

Fearing the worst, Kruk's eyes well up in tears which he wipes away with his arm. "Hmmmf...someth'n in my eye...Payment?...Yes, payment..." In a slow trance-like motion he reaches into his pouch grabbing a handful of coins and places them into the messenger's hand, not even bothering to count how much he gave him.

Turing to his crimelord crew "Greggor...greggor...yes, I must come to his aide immediately. He's the only true friend I had...before coming here." He then drinks the rest of his ale and mutters something under his breath about getting his gear ready. " Turning to the rest of his adventuring companions he asked. "Georg, did you ever cross paths with Greggor back home? He was outgoing and well respected by many. It would mean a lot to me if you or Carolina could join me. I open the invitation to you first." He stares his dwarven friend and fellow adventuring companion for a reply.

4th level fighter, soon to be 5th level since he is only 60 xp away from that mark.

An updated stat block is coming

I know Raiyek is joining a group. Is Georg joining the same group? If so, then Kruk chooses Carolina.

Carolina eyes the other halfling and his open palm. With a wordless smirk, she returns to her ale and waits for Georg's answer.

[sblock=OOC]Carolina is currently a level 2 rogue, waiting on approval for level 4. She is too sexy for level 3.

Note to Judges: For Approval[/sblock]

The warforged loomed larger as the dwarven wizard entered. When Kruk invites Georg on his journey, Incarnation places his hand on the table. Smoke issues from where the fire in his plating makes contact. This one is the last. Georg Stoneburner. Scion of Mykonos and caller of the arcane fires. You are named. Yours and the holy sword's are who the fates have given unto me. I cannot offer words of kin or friendship. All I can speak are the shadows of fate that have cast upon the three of us. As I have asked the holy sword, I ask you now: Will you follow this call?" His tone has no disrespect for Kruk, but his business seems urgent to him.[sblock=The Path of Light]Georg is the other one I contacted previously. Sorry, dimsdale. :)[/sblock]

Raiyek is slightly taken aback by the warforged's apparent knowledge of him, but recovers quickly. "Thank you, Kruk," he says first, in response to the dwarf's praise. "You and your axe are fearsome foes as well! I pray Palladys guards and guides you on your journey back to Allaria ... but I fear I may have to part ways with you this time, friend."

The paladin turns to Incarnation. "Incarnation, I have two questions before I answer yours. Who is it that 'named' us, and what darkness is coming?"
[sblock=OOC]Yup, Raiyek's joining Incarnation's group for the Path of Light.

I guess, since Georg's here now, that we could move the question-answering out of the tavern, if Scorpius is ready (and Georg agrees to come ;)).[/sblock]

I read the signs that fate leaves. A seer whispered to me of my place in this doom; yours I have read myself. My reading could be wrong, but the doom itself is real. More of this darkness I do not yet know. But the name of he who does is known to me: The Warden.[sblock=OOC]It is true that the "doom" was prophesized to Incarnation; his "reading" of Raiyek and Georg is however my own device. :) But Incarnation is all about fate and dooms, so it makes sense that he could have read some signs somewhere.[/sblock]

Kruk looks at Goerg and says "Aye, it seems that one with your talents is needed else where friend. I have no doubt that you and Raiyek will put a stop to the evil that the warforged is talking about. Good luck. Keep your blades sharp!...and your staff Georg!" Kruk, with a puzzled look on his face, turns to the rogue who is listening intently to the coversation. "What do ya say Carolina? I don't know what's happened to Greggor, but I know it would have to be a serious threat if he went out of his way to contact me. Sounds like a lot of trouble and we could be killed. Want to join me ?" Kruk already knows that the rogue lives for adventure as much as he does, but still waits for her reply.

Stonegod

It occurred to after I wrote the invite post that Johnmeier1 already has a character in this group. What was I thinking. Clearly I wasn't.

"Trouble and death, eh?" she replies without looking. She takes another sip of ale and pretends to chew on the invitation for a bit just to rib the dwarf, if nothing else. "Two excellent qualities to have for an adventure, I dare say." She finally turns to him, her stoic face showing the barest hint of a smile. "I'll join you... the gods know someone needs to cover your flank."
