Given how caustically everyone jumps all over his ass the minute the electronic registration is up (and buggy), I'm surprised Mr. Adkinson offers anything but "first come - first served at the door" for all events.

I knwo how hard this is every year, honestly i think its better than last year when we had 2 or 3 postponments. This year it only took me 4 hours to get all of my needed rpgs in my basket. Checking out is another subject. sigh i hope i can get on at some wee hour of the morning and finish this crap..

Well, I'm glad that SOMEONE was able to get something accomplished at this execrable excuse for a registration process. I've been hitting the "Login" button for 4 and a half hours now.

I've been going to GenCon for twenty-five years now, and this is absolutely the worst ever. Was the need for bandwidth really that difficult to predict? Shame on those who felt this system was in any way close to adequate! Mr. Adkinson, you not only can do better, you MUST do better!

I'm furious at the wasted time and the likelihood that I'll get few of the games I wanted, even though I was online at the stroke of Noon, Pacific.

Even though i know we're all complaining i think its just frustration. In all honesty, they have a hell of an online database system that can even think about doing what they're doing. I can't think of any other convention that does this and for them attempting is an accomplishment in itself. He could very well just have us by our events at the con which would really be a timewaster

From the Gen Con website:

2005 Indy Registration Information
We are going to shut down the servers from 5:00 pm PST on 5/16/05 to 7:00 am PST on 5/17/05 to perform a database upgrade on the system. We hope this will increase connectivity and response time for event registration. If you had soemthing in your cart, it will remain there until you check out. We apologize for the inconvenience.

Wait a minute:

For three years, it's been a problem and all we've gotten is:

"We are aware of the problem, and are taking steps to fix it." Problem HAS NOT been fixed.

If it was your bank (or any other example), would you accept it? Or would you complain??

I don't want to bitch, but c'mon, let's call a spade a spade. Any successful business SHOULD NOT have problems like this. This is the "Super Bowl" of gaming, right?

Think about it.

Regardless, is there any reason to get personal?

Absolutely so. I am not venting at a poor clerk, gatekeeper, or peon. Furthermore, I am following the time tested and true American method of 3 strikes. Aka: Fool me once (2003,) shame on you. Fool me twice (2004,) shame on me. Fool me thrice (2005,) all bets are off and it's now personal!

It's the New York way.

Businesses manage to get online catalogs up and running all of the time. A little planning and thought behind the server setup and design can go a long way to getting a responsive system even under load.
