Ever had a piece of art inspire a character?

I come from an artsy sort of background; I've been drawing since I was 4 years old and can competently draw my own pieces and copies of pretty much anything Wayne Reynolds has drew.

Given that, I also have a really active imagination and get inspired from time to time with artwork. As of late, I've been working on a new character for an open book campaign I'll be playing in, and I was looking for a holy warrior who was decent at healing. Looking through my books to get some feats and whatnot, I happened upon Races of Destiny and it's awesome cover with that half-orc paladin, and it hit me: this was to be my character. A rough and tumble, grumbly, devoted, virtuous half-orc paladin in all his oft-disputed glory.

So, have you ever had this happen to you?

Yes, actually.

Tulak, by Keith Parkinson

I have no idea who the character Tulak is (I'm sure someone here will be glad to provide that information), but he stared at me all through the month of October last year from the Keith Parkinson calendar on my wall. I was so intrigued by Tulak that I decided to create my own character around the image.

My take was a Sharakim (a race from the same book that provided inspiration for the original post in this thread, Races of Destiny) Wizard (Diviner) with a hope to later take the Loremaster PrC (from the DMG). I'm anxious to work this character into a campaign I'm running, but it's drawing (dragging, actually) to a close, so that's unlikely. Also, Sharakim aren't really featured in my setting, so it's a bust either way.

Who knows, maybe I'll actually get to play a game some day.

I used thie picture as inspiration for a rogue/sorceror NPC/love interest for one of the PC's in my Ambergate campaign. The PC's were crew on a ship that was about to mutiny, and the NPC (Wren) was one of their allies...

Yup, that's the one. Now picture him as 3' tall with access to 5th level spells...
Halfling Necro? huh, I ran an evil campaign last year with a Lightfoot Halfling Dread Necromancer in the party. It was a lot of fun to see how he faired with his (disguised) undead companion (I gave him one for free).

cheers,

Yes, occasionally, though I think that I tend to make NPCs based off of pictures more frequently as a DM, probably because of the number of created NPCs to PCs ratio.
