Ever had a piece of art inspire a character?

Not necessarily pictures per se, but certainly other multimedia images, sounds, etc. have served as an inspiration for pc's AND adventure creation as well. The most recent adventure creation I did (Treebore still has it I think?) was catalysted by Jean Michael Jarre's "En Attendent Cousteau", for example.

Character wise there is one I would LIKE to do. A cleric/monk stormlord. The inspiration? Of course - Lightning from Big Trouble in Little China. Even if the movie was kindy silly at times the three storms were TOTALLY cool. Well ... at least I thought they were. :heh:

I would say it's my most common means of character inspiration.

My next mage?

I've never had a piece of art inspire a particular character. But I've taken to carrying a notebook with me whenever I visit an art gallery, because I usually gain inspiration for an adventure or three from them.

Had a sorcerer inspired by the King In Yellow art the D20 CoC and the Worm that walks illo in the Epic level handbook. He did the mask to protect / hide his face routine ala Vega[US] / Balrog [Japan] from Street Fighter 2.

A friend of mine did up a sketch and I even made a mini for the character.

I also made a half orc paladin inspired by the Tom Lockwood concept art of the monkey gripping half orc paladin. Sadly that character was given up on due to the DM at the time being wishy-washy on in game morality. Later that same DM would fall in love with Ebberon's treatment of alignment {or should i say lack there of].

Looks like a bleached out Green Star Adept to me...

Seriously, though. I had the Crystar action figures! Well, Moltar* anyway.

Not quite a picture, but I did base one character idea on the slimy hench-badguy in The Mummy. He had a ton of holy symbols to various gods, "just in case", even though he was not that religious (he was a Warlock, in fact).

I almost routinely base characters on art I see around me, although I usually change things around a bit so it's not so routine. There's a Half-Orc wizard I want to use at some point based on an early concept scetch I once saw, for example.

But then, I also create them from stuff I'm watching on TV, anime, and other mass media too. :D
