Ever lost an amazing player?

One of my best players at college got accepted to Cornell University, and so is moving across the continent. Which is a shame, because not only was she an excellent player, she was an excellent moderator, and helped keep my players away from each other's throats. Next year's games might be interesting...

Demiurge out.

Not a player but a GM. Brad Furst, first GM I ever had (pun intended). Introduced me to roleplaying. He might not be the best GM ever, but he was fun to play with, and he loved introducing people. I met all of my current group through him. Then he decided to go back to college on weekends to get his Master's degree. He works nights, so we never see him anymore. :(

My former roommate was a great player. A smart, funny and spontaneous type of player. He also doubled as the one who would axe players we didn't want in the group (only happened twice).

He got married, then took a job which entailed much travelling. So no more gaming.

Without a shadow of a doubt I'd want back Rod, who is one of the best friends I've ever had and a great player to have in my group. He committed suicide in late May 2004, none of us know why, and his loss tore into our group.

Another great player is Nik (Eccles on these boards), who moved away from my town to Southampton (and joined Morrus' group) not long after the above tragedy.

Lastly a great old friend of mine, who taught me a lot about to DM and weave storylines together, portray NPC's with different voices, mannerisms etc, and who ran the most fun campaign I've ever played in (DC Heroes), would be Mike Sault. I have no ideaif you're on these board smike, but if you are, get in touch mate!

Ellen, Abe, Rick, and Shannon. Graduating from college forced me away from the first two, Rick moved west, and Shannon moved...away. Somewhere. Suffice to say the circumstances are peculiar, and I get the -most- bizarre emails from her twice a year.

Abe was part of the first D&D group I ever ran. He could roleplay anything. Ellen joined a few years later -- she borrowed my PH and sat down on the floor. An hour later, she asked how much equipment she could buy. An hour after that, she handed me a perfect, completed character. I met Rick online and joined his group exploring the Night Below as a female svirfneblin -- it was a blast! And Shannon was simply beyond rational explanation.

Ok, enough of the getting rid of players threads.

Have you ever lost an amazing player that you would love to have back?
They either moved away, or left because of someone else, or just got tired of the game, etc.

As many of my players are drawn from the ranks of the Navy, and they get reassigned regularly, I often lose some very good players to rotations.

Lost my DM when he got a job as a game designer/world builder for Magic
Hat Software.

(By the way Corsair, check out the gameday link.)

Oh and if the great player Breakdaddy lost is reading, you can check out the link too ;)

I used to run an "All Players Welcome" Shadowrun campaign at a local community college.
Basically anyone was welcome to show up with a PC and join the mayhem. It was not uncommon for me to be GMing for 20+ players at once
We had a young couple show up one weekend. The guy was a tool. Disruptive, antagonistic, but the girl ... ahh that girl could play. She had a plan for everything, knew the genre, knew the system, and could roleplay better than anyone at the table.
Needless to say, her jackass boyfriend didn't make any friends at the table, and they never returned. No loss on his part, but we sure could use a few more like her ...

We lost an amazing player and DM last year when he moved. He know works for Upperdeck games So I won't wish for him back since he has gotten his dream job.

So far he is the best DM I have ever had and the measuring stick for all future DMs. He is very creative his home brew worlds just demand that you come on in and explore them. He was great at spur of the moment fly by the seat of your pants DMing which he needed with our group. He was also good at looking at things like feats and such and really seeing how balanced or ubalanced they were.

He worked with all the players designing prestige classes if needed tweaking class ability there to help the players have the character they wanted and none of the characters came out as uber munchkins. He also encouraged role play and gave us the support the make decisions that rest of the party may not like. We sometimes had conflict between party members but it only enriched the game and never once did it threatened the stability of the game.

His NPCs became a very important part of the game we cared about these characters and yet they never overshadowed the PCs. It is something I have really missed in my current games.

I also think he was smart enough to realize that if you want a long running game you need to lower XP awards so you level slower. In three years we hit 10 level. But I liked that better becasue it added to the belivability to the game. Np epic level 18 year olds. I enjoyed it as a sorcerer because I got to fully utilize all my spells and learned some really good tactics with them before I suddenly got new spells.

I only got to play with him as a player twice once was a short Forgotten Realms game the second was the game we still play. His character was dark and maybe evil but through skilled role playing he ended up as leader of the party he eventualy won the loyalty of most of the characters. Under his leadership we got more done and worked better as a team than we do now with the leadership of a paladin.

His character wanted to rule the world and he was smart enough to know that he needed others to accomplish this goal so he was subtly grooming the other PCs for this task. And he did this with a mixture of goods, and neutrals and lawfuls in the party.

I miss him and I think any group heplays with is very lucky.

I'm about to lose one great player to munchkins.

And not the rule breaking, monty-haul, pain in the *ss kind, but real munchkins. His wife has trouble been free the nights we game, and there isn't much chance of rescheduling the game to another day since everybody else has pretty much structured their lives for that day. I tried checking other days, and the only other availabel option is one night after my soccer games. But I'm afraid I won't be much use as a DM after a whole day of work plus a hard and afst game of soccer. So he'll probably stay home and watch his munchkins. :\ Hopefully he'll be able to retun sometime in the future.
