Ever weirded yourself out?

It was a bit creepy how well my group took to the BoVD when I started running my evil campaign.

Then again, I remember the first time I watched Hannibal at the theater, I just couldn't stop laughing. Great movie.

I'm pretty much in Crothian's boat. I don't like playing in evil games often, but I'm pretty good at it. I can do creepy/gross/whatever, but it's really the normalcy of the evil that's creepy.

On a related note, I did freak my wife out, once. She was playing a V:tM character and burning through Humanity at an obcene rate (from 8 to 2 within a dozen sessions). She was flirting with the Sabbat and/or alternate paths. Her encounter with a Tzimisce was an instant call to sanity. Vicissitude + small children. Enough said.

I ran a game once where a tiny blood golem entered the cleric through her skin and then 5 rounds later she vomited up a perfectly formed human baby that had two souls within it, one good and one evil.

I've found that since I've become a father that my capacity for plots that involve evil and children is much diminished. I now cringe at the prospect of harm coming to kids even in an imaginary fictional world. I never ran all that many of those plots in the first place but now I'm pretty much out of that business entirely.

I don't weird myself out, because I know I CAN be that morose and depraved if I need to. It's just assimilation from all the Stephen King and Call of Cthulhu Now adventures I've read over time.

When I DM, I'll put in occasional vile things, but I try not to do them graphically or such to offend sensibilities - I'll just try to infer it and leave it to imagination. I can also understand Rel's point; if you've got kids (or another beloved relative) that could be put in that situation, then having a frame of reference that you care about brings something like that more home to you than if your only connection was through fiction.

Heck, we'll ALL capable of some really nasty thoughts and behaviors, but it's that internal censor that kicks in and says "ugh, that's that's just TOO far" that separates us from the serial killers.

Heh. It's even worse when you're playing a character without any humanity at all. After having my righteous cop character killed during a battle I decided to play a Samedi Necromancer without any shred of humanity to try something new. It wasn't that he took any joy in hurting people, it was just that he was very clinical and detached about matters of death. Anyways the problem started when I acquired the ability to separate souls from their bodies and shunt them into other peoples' bodies. Eventually I came up with an intricate plan that neccessitated the abduction of innocent people (including a half dozen children) forcing them to, in-turn, transform each other into vampires and ripping their souls from their bodies. The purpose of it all was simply to further the cause of my PC's necromantic research which promised some groundbreaking new insights into the nature of death. Fascinating stuff really.

I was in the process of describing to the GMs the steps I intended to take to put my plan into motion when it suddenly occured to me that, when I would be done, I'd have a dozen dead bodies and a dozen spare souls lying around. It occured to me that I could profit from the leftovers by raising their bodies as zombies (for use as personal servants) and selling their immortal souls to a wraithly reaper from the underworld for future favours.

It was the systematic listing of all these attrocities that I intended my PC to commit, all in the name of research and waste management that freaked me (and the GMs out). I dropped the character shortly thereafter.
