Ever wonder what it would feel like.....

......to get hit with a Magic Missile? Would there be impact? Would it knock you off our feet like a bullet? Is it hot? Cold? Tingly in a bad way?

This question comes from a friend who's writing a series of stories based on an old campaign of ours. Any and all info is appreciated!

I always pictured it feeling like being hit by a bottle rocket. That is, stings a little. Even with a high level caster, I don't think a 1st level spell would knock you off your feet or be that painful.

Well, it would have to hurt quite a bit or it wouldn't do that amount of damage. It is less damage than a club, so that would mean it would not hurt as bad as being hit by a baseball bat. I'd personally say it would be like getting hit by a high speed baseball.

As far as how it would feel. I've always said it felt like a sudden impact on the part of the body it hit, basically like being hit by a baseball. It is force, so it probably wouldn't feel cold or hot.

I'd say that it feels like a very sharp, very precise stabbing pain, like being jabbed with a large needle hard in a vital organ.

Of course, I'm partial to voodoo-doll inspired magic missiles.

I'd say it feels like a very fast and quite forceful stab (ie, like a dagger strike from someone who's got a 12 Strength). High-level characters with lots of HP may be able to move so that it strikes a non-vital spot or causes a wide and shallow wound rather than a deep stab. Noone can dodge a magic missile, of course.

...which is pretty weird, come to think of it. I mean, some people can dodge fireball blasts (evasion), but noone, not even the most nimble quickling rogue on the face of the planet, can have a 1-in-a-billion chance of dodging a magic missile. Not even if they mostly stand behind a wall. Strange. The guy who invented MM must have got a Nobel prize for thaumaturgy, or something.

Ive always envisioned being hit by a magic missle (or 5) as a very quick flash of energy like a sci-fi pulse gun or something. Bright fast moving darts of energy that whip out from the caster's finger and smack into you, scorching your clothes and blistering your skin.
