Everquest OGL

EQ CR vs D&D 3E CR

I just took a moment to compare the CR tables bwtn two systems: the values of XP's awarded in the EQ table (from the S&SS website today) are basically 2.3333 times larger than the values earned in Table 7-1 on page 166 of the DMG.

So... not only does one earn more XPs in EQ, one needs more to level up (see previous posts)!

Not owning the EQ GM's book yet, I'm note sure what to make of it all... (But the mind reels.)

Has anyone looked at what happens to the classes vs. core classes when the same advancement is used?

Are they more, less or about the same in power level?

If you look at the sample creatures online, the CR system seems about the same, so EQ either has a different award system for CR or advancement is just half as fast. If the latter is true, then the classes would be much easier to port over.

Well, first you gotta deal with the classes being 30 levels instead of 20...

Although the classes are indeed 30 level instead of 20, the abilities granted by the classes at levels in excess of 20 are comparable (although somewhat weaker) to Epic Level benefits. Therefore, once again, it's not THAT hard to port them over, or to take them as the basis for a game world and then port in as much core material as you want (including the ELH and so on)

the XP question

I just got off the eq website a experience chart for the CR values, and just for comparison factors, the characters will advance about the same rate as they do in D&D.

This is for just level 1 characters:
CR 1 - 700
CR 2 - 1400
CR 3 - 2100
CR 4 - 2950
CR 5 - 4175

So, despite there being a larger amount of experience points needed per level, the CR values are also increased by the same amount, so really with good DM planning, the level increase should be about the same.

That's the same conclusion I came too.

An interesting question to me is why the different "math" but the same outcome? I can only guess that D&D 3E's XP award system is not OGL... It also makes me wonder: were all XP costs in EQ tweaked by a factor of 2 (or so)?

OGL Text?

At Gen Con, I looked everywhere for the OGL, couldn't find it. Of course, it was a bit difficult to sift through such a massive book. Can anyone reproduce the OGL text that explains what is and what isn't OGL?

The lack of a D20 logo confused me at first, but I get it now...

There we go... maybe some typos in there...

So...

Everything else that's not Product Identity is OGL? Trying to figure out what the designation of OGC is.

Okay...

"Subject to the Product Idenity designations above, the remainder of this volume is designated as Open Game Content and may only be used in accordance with the Open Game License."

Which is tres cool. Massive amounts of descriptive text for combat, classes, and so on are all open. Just eliminate the names.
