Everquest Role Playing Game

My Exalted book (the only WW hardcover I've ever owned) has held up just fine.

Like Hong, my PHB bit the dust within a year..it was very poorly bound. I bought a 2cnd print, but honestly haven't used it much so I can't comment on how good it may be.

My DMG is ready for replacement too now, and the MM is getting there...the binding really is bad on those 1st prints...but I refuse to buy another DMG or MM until the 2cnd printings ae out..both for the binding AND for the eratta. My 1E books purchased in 1979 and 1980 have held up much better, and are just now finally showing some binding problems.

Don't build 'em like they used to (in grumpy old man voice).

Anyone know if the DMG has hit it's second print? I can't find any in my local book and game shops.

The only White Wolf hardcover I've had problems with is Relics and Rituals, strangely. But all my 3E core books are either held together by rubber cemenet and tape, or else looking pretty tattered.

Heh, the binding on my 3E PHB, bought the day 3E came out, fell apart after two months. This was a notorious problem with the 1st printing.

I heard of this, but never experienced it first hand. I have a 1st printing for me, and a 2nd printing for my wife. All my players have a first printing, and a few have second printings. Despite continual use, sometimes daily, none of them have shown any problems in almost three years of solid use. I can't speak to White Wolf's materials. One of my players has a great deal of WOD stuff, so I'll check with him.

I've heard of this problem, but not experienced it. My 1st printing book looks just perfect. My husband's 2nd printing is pristine too. But then, we probably don't give books hard use. They're either on the shelf, on the coffee table, or being read. Well, or at the game table.

Wizardru, Buttercup: the PHB binding problems apparently only happened with a few batches. Not every copy in the 1st printing was affected, but it definitely caused a stir.

Do an advanced Google search on "PHB defective binding", group rec.games.frp.dnd, up to the end of 2000. You'll get a lot of posts on the subject. I'd post the URL, but it's huge.

The binding on my 3e books looks pretty bad in some places. But it's holding up better than I thought. I figured they would have already lost pages, but they are still in there.

P.S. My 1e core books are holding up great and we weren't very carefull with them in my youth.

Huh? Rant time! ( I am NOT speaking of any d20 publisher here BTW ) Just cuz I put up with lousy service on a frequent basis, that means I need to go out of my way to THANK someone for getting it right? NO! businesses take CUSTOMERS for granted, and moreso every day. Customer service is a dying art folks, but it doesn't have to be that way. Don't patronize any business who provides inferior service. There are other people out there that will treat you better... with the possible exception of a telephone service company - They ALL seem to suck.

I'll reserve thanking a business for fixing a screw up of theirs if they deliver ABOVE my expectations...

<rant>
Its people like you that make CSR's not like their job.....I know I am one...and everytime I get a simple thank you from a customer I help it makes me want to go out of my way to help others for a while...its just like in anything...if your APPRECIATED then you wanna do better if your not...then you just do what you have to..
</rant>

sorry :D

I bought a copy of R&R2 at the Con and it's pages are falling out, but I talked to SSS guys and they said they would send me out a new one when they get them. They only had 100 at GenCon and I bought the second to last one. But for the most part my books have held up. The Games Workshop books all fall apart. A friend of mine had them all rebound in a spiral big binding so he can take it anywhere. But, for the most part I have been happy with my biddings, but I am very conscience of my books treatment. Now, that I think about it, my PHB is getting a little beat up, might be time for a new one...

DONT be sorry! You are absolutely correct that being appreciated is a proper motivator :D A simple thank you is common courtesy and is expected. That is not what I meant in my rant. Going Above and Beyond the Call of Duty does deserve to be recognized with SPECIAL thanks ( sending an email, or otherwise going out of the way to express thanks ), but not just "do(ing) what you have to.." Your job - what is expected of you. Why they hired you. What you are paid for.

Yesterday, I had to wait FIVE minutes for my change ( $.035 cents ) at the video store because the CSR was ( as she told me after she got back) " out of quarters " and had to go get some. She didn't even blush when I suggested she could have just given me three dimes and a nickle.
