Everyone have the new Dragon?

Yeah SKETCHPAD!!

Thank god someone else out there has noticed the utter terror that is Paizo Design. YUCK!

Keith was on this thread saying they were getting their process streamlined and apparently that means only designing 25% of the mag. Kind of a retro 'Plain Label' approach. Wow thats sure to get noticed by Comm Arts.

This irratates me to no end, theres little excuse for it. The concept can be pulled off but they failed/ "Play" mag often does really toned down design but puts a nice fat juicey graphic in there to drool over. All Im seeing is white space. If you just took that out theres 2.5 - 3.5 more pages, thats 2-3 more pages of adds (which make you money Piazo). I hope Piazo reads this and hires a real designer or takes the gloves off the one they got. Demon Stone was laid out pretty good and it sticks out like a sore thumb. Did someone else do that section or what? Sub is going the way of the do-do.

Anyhow, I hope I do not get banned for complaining and I'd like the Moderators to notice I didnt question the size, shape or spiritual magnitude of anyones jibblyjangs.

Thank You and Goodnight!

I recently renewed my Dungeon subscription- I was put my money where my mouth is, as they implemented the changes I had been requesting since they added Polyhedron to the magazine. My Dragon subscription is ending in a few months- like many others, I'm holding off on renewing until I see whether they improve the speed of subscription delivery.

(Still haven't received mine yet, BTW.)

Finally got my new Dragon one Tuesday, Aug. 17th. It is taking a little while to get used to the new format. I think the issue is a little hodgepodge, I like it better when there is a little bit of a theme. I'm really looking foreward to the next issue with the H.P. Lovecraft article.

I got my copy a couple of days ago, which is about a week or two after the FLGS got it, and that's been SOP around here for a year or so now.

Is this a fantasy magazine or a techno geek magazine. Here are my first impressions without even reading the content (Which I hope is better than the look). What happened to this work of art? I will start with the cover.

First the cover title is just plain bad. The old title gave the magazine a distinct look and inspired the imagination. The new title is just plain and lacks imagination. The art on the cover was somewhat imaginative in the fact that it was presenting "Dragon Unleashed" (Which would have been fitting if you actully came up with a decent layout). The next think about the cover is the fact it revealed nothing inside the magazine. It lacked attention grabbers (eg look at any issue before this one to see what I am talking about). If you want people to buy the magazine give them a clue into what they are getting.

Next the new font looks like the Times New Roman font that I used in school for all my reports. I now feel like I am going to read a copy of newsweek or somthing. Come on what was wrong with the old font?

Now for my biggest complaint and biggest show stopper for renewing my subscription when it comes up in a few more issues. The inside layout of the pages are just horrible. It looks like I really am reading a news magazine. With the modern art to the plain or blank pages (Did you fire the graphic artists that made the magazine appealing?). What happened to the fantasy feel of the magazine. I don't buy Dragon to view something that looks like a ultra modern no imagination piece of junk. I want my fantasy art and things that will inspire the imagination. Come on what kind of magazine are you trying to create here? (I hope the content is better than the look)

Amen to that thepriz :)

Here's a funny story. I haven't gotten the past few Dragons. None since #219, if I'm not mistaken. I figured my subscription had expired. I thought, Oh well, I've been disappointed with it lately. I never really used anything from it anyway, and most of the stuff I liked is moving to Dungeon. A few days later, Dragon #323 appears in my mailbox, apparently early (for once). Huh. I like it better than the old Dragon, I guess, but it's not enough, especially with the spotty delivery.

Just to note, that I have my copy sent to FROM a FLGS and it still is not here. It is not in the store, let alone in my mailbox and it is looking like this will be a while off yet.

So for subscribers I feel for you, but just think of those of us not in US. We often wait a LONG time to see most products - well after many have had details posted here.

In fact I haven't even got the Dungeon. It arrived in the store on Friday, so will have soon, but hey, how long have these mags been out now?

Really annoying, as I have a first article in Dragon :) and I just want to see a copy.

twiddling thumbs

Connors
