I don't have any of these but I think for 3.0 he is in Book of Vile Darkness, Tome of Horrors, Rappan Athuk 3 (a module by Necromancer Games), and he appeared in a Dungeon adventure.

For previous editions there was the 1st edition AD&D Monster Manual and some 1e modules about Bloodtone and for 2e some planescape modules by Monte Cook.

Mayfair games had a version in their third gods and monsters book in the roman pantheon.

What are the various books Orcus is described in?

IIRC, there's a version in Tome of Horrors (I think it's the Creature Catalog version HERE) and a version in Book of Vile Darkness. There was a Dungeon Mag with another version (it was the issue with "Headless" in it; from this site I guess it's Issue 89). Don't know how similar any of these are, and I haven't even seen Rappan Athuk 3 (thanks Voadam).

For Orcus's evolving history, you need to delve back into old editions of the game, including the sources Voadam cites (The Great Modron March and Dead Gods are the 2E Planescape modules). He's been through a lot, including a period in which he was himself undead....

Orcus is in Dead Gods (2nd edition), all of the Bloodstone adventures, especially the last one, Throne of the Bloodstone Lands, I think (1st edition), his first edition stats are in the Monster Manual, he's mentioned in a few 3rd edition sources, Ghostwalk and the Book of Vile Darkness by WotC, the Tome of Horrors and Rappan Athuk adventures by Necromancer Games. There's also a fairly recent Dungeon issue that had stats for him, but I don't remember the issue number.

Off the top of my head (I know I'm leaving some out):

AD&D 1st edition Monster Manual
The Bloodstone Wars
Throne of Bloodstone
The Great Modron March
Dead Gods
Rappan Athuk 3
Tome of Horrors
Book of Vile Darkness

"That Dungeon mag" (the adventure is somewhere in the #90s if I remember correctly)

Thanks Guys!

I was sure about a few of those, some I was not. I want to make a Orcus based villain for my game and want to see what all's available and see which I like best for my needs. Thanks again!

One idea I had was that a cleric of orcus could have a "animate dead" potion that he could feed to his troops / followers before going into combat. If they died within an hour of drinking the potion they would become either a zombie or skeleton (as per the spell) depending on how they were killed (fireball'd minions would likeky come up as skeletons for example.)

Obviously since he was the one that administered the potion, that those undead would count against his total possible for control.

Any thoughts?

Okay, that's a pretty cool idea, FC.

The sound you hear is me ripping you off...

:D

COOL! I got ripped off...hey...wait a minu...

Seriously, have fun with it...I certainly plan on it...though my players may feel diferently... muwahahahhaha....

One thing I did consider was either having it take overnight ot effect or 1 minute. 1 Minute is more fun because your players will be looting the bodies and such and healing and all of a sudden..."AGRHHH these guys are moving...attack!"

Great horror factor...
