Dungeon Crawl Classics #1: Idylls of the Rat King: Remember the golden days of role playing, when adventures were underground, NPCs were there to be killed, and the finale of every dungeon was the dragon on the 20th level? Well, those days are back. Dungeon Crawl Classics feature bloody combat, intriguing dungeons, and no NPCs who aren't meant to be killed. Each adventure is 100% good, solid dungeon crawl, with the monsters you know, the traps you fear, and the secret doors you know must be there somewhere.

Finally... back to some mean treants!

Also, I'm pretty excited about the Dungeon Crawls too! I know it's the popular expression in the industry right now that adventures don't sell, but I'll be buying... after all, in addition to my own designs for Dark Quest I've got a ton of sourcebooks now that are set to amp my characters up and now they're all fleshed out and nowhere to go... so to speak.
And I miss having a couple of good ol' dungeon crawls lying about to toss at the players once in awhile.

...by the way, I just clicked on the link and took a browse at the Dungeon Crawl cover... the retro look is awesome! Where in the world did you find someone how had a style so similar to that of Erol Otus, Bill Willingham, and Jeff Dee???

Let's just say I looked... and looked... and then looked some more... and then kept looking... and then finally found the right guy!

Glad you found him!
Call me pathetic, but I plan to buy a copy just for the cover itself!...Plus the fact it's for levels 1 to 3, you can never have to many low level modules.

The classic look and feel of the first Dungeon Crawl module is very appealing. Having just bought B1-9 second hand, it'll be interesting to compare the two :)

Is there a plan to scale the Dungeon Crawls, so that they more or less form a continuous campaign? Not necessarily so much in terms of plot as in level flow. In other words, will there be a module for levels 2-4, one for levels 3-5, etc? From the comment about a dragon on level 20, it seems like you might be planning to expand a single dungeon ever downward?

Actually, I spent a while trying to decide which would be best. The first few will be stand-alone dungeons for characters of low levels, but a series of linked dungeons is definitely an option for the future.

l'm pleased to know that not only are you planning on doing retrospective style modules for 3rd edition, but you are also looking into low level modules.... these always seemed hard for me to find... well, interesting ones anyways, and having a dozen 10-12 level character adventures are fine provided that you have modules that allow your characters to progress that far...
(I tend to force my players to start at level 1 with their characters rather than letting them roll up 6th to 8th level characters to start out with)

If I saw that in the store, I'd be buying it so fast the shopkeeper's head will spin. Great cover - this type of product is meeting my gaming needs (and I can say that about very few companies these days). Looking forward to February...

Hoping for some higher level ones, though.
