Ex-Paladin & Fallen Paladin?

I've seen 3.5e NPC entries where the class is listed as "Ex-Paladin" and "Fallen Paladin". As far as the rules go, is there a difference?

An "Ex-Paladin" is a multiclassed paladin who is still lawful good and haven't done anything "bad" to break his code of conduct and he retains his class features.
A "Fallen-Paladin" is a paladin who isn't lawful good anymore, has broken his code of conduct, can't gain anymore paladin levels and can't use his class features.
