Exalted 2nd Edition Game

[sblock=velmont]No don't bow out just for one adventure that i wasn't sure if i wanted to do in the first place. Time of Tumult has three stories, the Invisible Manse one that you’ve done, the first appearance of the Alchemicals, and a story with Fakharu involved. It’s a pretty fun story, and with you already attached to him, sounds like it might be one to do at some point. Unless other people have played it. It’s been out for a while and with only two adventures for exalted (tomb of 5 tombs, or whatever it’s called being the other one) it’s not surprising that most of us might be familiar with them on some level.[/sblock]

[sblock=Kalgalath]

That’s a really good origin, have you played this guy before, or did you just come up with it recently? At any rate, nice work. Oh and as you can see, I’m wordy. So I have no problem with long posts.

A few things:

The relationship between the Zenith and the Unconquered Sun:

When others exalt, the U. Sun can be pretty closed lipped, but with the Zenith he tends to be a bit wordy.

To the Zenith Panther: “You who have no father. I am your father now. You who shed blood and know not why. I give you a reason. In my anger, I turned my face from the world of men, but I shall do so no longer. Know you are among my chosen priests. Go, and make the world a righteous place as you know best. Take light into darkness, and know you act with my blessing.

If you read the Zenith book they all have about a small paragraph of words from the unconquered Sun, so if you wouldn’t mind adding a bit more to the what the U. Sun says to you that would be great. It tends to be something to the effect of life has been hard/ you’ve wasted your life, now things will be better/I give you purpose.

Outside of that it would be nice to give a little more description to the Dragon Blooded that attacked you, mainly the Fire Aspect, as it would seem a disappointment not to bring them back into the game. And I want you to be able to recognize them without having to be told, it’s the guy from your past. Maybe he has a tattoo or wears specific looking armor. Something.

And since you were a bandit leader who has a spiritual awakening, do you see yourself playing up the Zenith as leader type, or playing up the Zenith as loner monk type. You referred to yourself as a Zenith Monk, so the answer might be already in front of me, but I still had to ask. I guess the question I’m really looking for is; are you thinking of taking Followers as a background. With the Dawn walking around with 100 already, I just want to know what to expect.

Also start thinking a little bit (and really a little bit) about his youth. How did he get to this point in his life. It’ll probably never come into play, but everything helps.[/sblock]

Sweet jeebus! From the looks of those other two backgrounds, I'm going need to get a book or two before I can write a decent background. At least one that make any sense at least.

I got the gist of what's going on from the Tomb of Five Corners intro (as far as general history and becoming Exalted), but I think I'll need some help with the actual game mechanics. They sound interesting, but it's way different from anything else I've played.

[sblock=Dogma]I'm going to write you up an email that will explain everything on the premade character sheet, and if I get time some stuff on the other characters as well so that hopefully you'll feel more comfortable. I've been reading Exalted books since they come out, even though the game mechanics of 1st Ed made the people I normally play with shy away from it. The world is fascinating. Right now i'd say there are some 60 books out there (mostly 1st Edition), about 9 novels, and one 5 issue comicbook series. So you can see there is a lot to pull from.[/sblock]

Here my revised background:

*--------------------------------------------------------------*
Background
*--------------------------------------------------------------*
Entering the House of Ancient Stone
*--------------------------------------------------------------*
Peleps regis was not a member of one of teh major lines of the house, but his line was growing strong, thanks to the wedding of his parents. regis is the fifth child out of six. his four older bother and suisters have all exalted, all of the water aspect. The oldest is now finishing his training as a member of the Immaculate Order, and one of his sister was accepted at the Spiral Academy. His parents had great vision and wanted to create a new line in the house throught there children, so it was with that pressure that Peleps Regis had on his shoulder when he entered the House of Ancient Stone. It was no coincidence he was entering this school. Tepet Urono was very well connected to the Heptagram, so it was expected for him to enter the high school of Sorcery with Urono help. For that, it would be Regis himself who would need to help his cause, but he was a beautiful and shy boy, exactly the taste of the head of the House.

*--------------------------------------------------------------*
Lesson of Wood: Shameful Graduation
*--------------------------------------------------------------*
The graduation was in only one week, and for tehh first time, he was hanging upside down in the court. not oly that, but no one would come to untie him. It,s been over 24 hours he was there. During all these years at the House of Ancient Stone, he had been a model student. He had studied the Occult and Lore and was making his mark. All these theories seemed easy for regis to assimilate and some was envying him. But what brought the ire of the other students was his periodic visit to Urono's office. That had put him in good favor with the master of teh school, and no one like such relation. but no one would dare to do something to a favored of Uruno.

But yesterday, during his last visit, he learned from Uruno that he was accepted in an advance school of occultism, where he will be able to become a scholar for the All-Seeing Eye and maybe an advisor for the Wyld Hunt. But it wasn't enough for Regis. He needed to be accepted to the Heptagram, but he had one major weakness, he hadn't exalted yet. because of that, he would never be accepted at teh Heptgram, but he needed to enter a school of Sorcery. So he asked Uruno that favor. He never thought it could be so bad. When Uruno understood why Regis had been so docile, he took hsi whip and slashed him. He then hang him in teh court. But before doing it, he told him he is maintaining his choice for his futur, and would make sure to close all the doors of Sorcery school he knew.

No one came to his help. After so many years, he had no one close enough to think it would be better to untie him, and many was happy to see him in that situation. He was detach after the 48 hours. At his graduation, he was sent to his training for the All-Seeing Eye. He felt the support of his family growing thin. His failure at the House of Ancient Stone have put him in disfavor for a time, but it was clear the expectation wasn't great anymore, as all the doors of sorcery was closed. not only that, but rumors have spread on him, rumors that could hinder his parents ambition, as many starts to think Regis was a abstard child, as even the youngest borther had exalted. He was a stain on the line his parent wanted to establish.

*--------------------------------------------------------------*
Lesson of Water: The Wyld Hunt
*--------------------------------------------------------------*
The island was in sight. Regis couldn't believe it. He was a member of the Wyld Hunt. Not only that, he was with Peleps Deled. He was realizing he would propably not survive many mission. People who hasn't Exalted and are member of the Wyld Hunt hav not a long lifespan. And Regis was asked, both as a decent warrior and an expert in occult, to help the Wyld Hunt. It was his obligation toward the empire and as a member of the All Seeing-Eye. He also guess his parent manipulate the string to send him. The rumors was still running on him. If he could come back from the victory, he would gain some prestige. If he would die on the field, the rumors would die with the time. In both case, his line would win something.

A member of the All-Seeing Eye was reporting that an anathema had been found on the island. She was named Silent Shark. She was an Ogre. One of these demon summorners who corrupt the Creation with her foul magic. She had been travelling a few times to an shadowland. She was doing pact with the underworld. She had to be killed before she unleashed more ghost on these curse islands. Even some rumors told she was travelling with a great monster. So they needed a strong member of the Wyld Hunt, someone at ease in these islands. They called Peleps Deled. He was supported by four others Dragon-Blooded, and two of them was mage. They will be able to dispel the spells of the anathema, to banish his demons. The two boats was throwing there anchors and the life boats was put into teh water. The time to hunt was about to start.

*--------------------------------------------------------------*
Lesson of Earth: The Light of Judgement
*--------------------------------------------------------------*
It looked like overkill to his eye. Silent Shark wasn't such a powerfull anathema, but she was killed before she became one. That was the important thing. Regis had survived. He almost done nothing during the Wyld Hunt. Silent Shark had tried to escape, but Deled catch her and killed her, the other Dragon-Blooded almost did nothing. All the guards, Regis among them, only send a few wave of arrows to slow the anathema, who use some magic to ward himself, but it is what that slow him too much, it is what allow Deled to send his fatal blow.

The night had fallen and people was resting. Not that anyone was seriously exhausted. Two hours to track the Ogre down and fifteen minutes after, the Wyld Hunt was going back to the Blessed Island. It seems almost a waste of ressources. Regis suspect that someone wanted to send away Deled to weaken the Peleps house for some times. Maybe it was in relation with those rumors about the Empress dissappearance. Regis was thinking about that when came something they didn't expect. A huge sea monster starts to attack his boat. Regis was taken by surprise and falled on the deck. The monster seemed like a creature Regis have never seen. Most likely, a foul creation of the Wyld, maybe that monster Silent Shark was travelling with, but there was something weird about it... some stench of death... could it be coming from the shadowland?

Regis was laying on his back for a moment, frozen by an unkown fear, looking at others getting eaten. As a severed head felt on him, he quickly got back on his feet and took his bow, he starts to project arrows, but the tough hide of the creature seemed to stop all the arrows, not even his. Even the Dragon-Blooded had difficulty to do anything against the creature, and it was feasting on the crew. Regis would soon be part of this meal, and the crew had lost his moral and was acting in confusion. Regis decided to not die without giving a fight. He took one of his piercing arrow and wait to see teh eye of the creature. As the creature spotted him, it throw itself at the young Dynast who realeased his arrow, an arrow which lighted the night as the sun only can do. The creature let a shriek and violently hit teh deck, breaking the boat in two. Regis was was thrown overboard and his head hit something before he fall unconscious.

*--------------------------------------------------------------*
Lesson of Air: Crouching Dragon, Hidden Spider
*--------------------------------------------------------------*
"Wake up Spider."

"What happen?" asked Regis as he open his eye. His first sight make him jump. A water dragon was looking at him.

"All depend to whom I speak." answered the Dragon.

"You are speaking to Peleps Regis." answers the young Dynast seriously.

"Are you sure? Close your eyes and tell me what you see."

Regis wondered what the dragon wanted, but he didn't delt in any position to protest. He saw himself standing in front of a group. All anathema. Four of them where solars, five of them were lunars. One looked like pretty much like Silent Shark. He was himself a Solar, and his light was blazing the region, a region where stand the Wyld. Drawing essence from his companion, he was pushing away the Wyld, turning it into a large fertile land. An army of soldier and peasant, buidler and engineer was awaiting to build on this land, with the help of many wonders of the first age. The circle was about to create a new land. *flash* It happen a few decades ago, he was on a shore. Silent Shark was there. She was leaving. A packmate had flee to the west, she was succombing to the Wyld and she needed to be help before she was totally lost. For him, he needed to visit a man who could be a member of his circle. He had heard rumors of him and he needed to find him. *flash* He was summoning a group of snakes to take care of the Dragon-Blooded who was leading that Wyld Hunt, but he never saw coming the monk who strike him from behind. With hsi quick reflex, he easily dodge him, but he had to forget his spell. The man, Peleps Deled, fought him pretty well and did his job, occupied him, force him to spend his essence and when he was burning like a bonefire, the sorcerer send him a wave of obsidian butterfly that almost killed him. He was tough, he survived, but he was weak, too weak to fight against an immaculate monk...

Regis opened his eyes. "What is your trick?"

"My trick. None. It is your memory, Spider. Isn't it ironic. Your exaltation have chosen the killer of his wife. A follower of his own killer. Destiny have this kind of twist. I knew you'll come back here. You always come back here. I am bond to teach you the celestial circle, so the solar circle can come back to this world. But you are reckless, and always get yourself killed against some Demon, some Deathlord or some Fair Folk. It would be time for you to relax and learn to take your time."

"Why are you speaking to me like that. I'm a Dynast! A member of the Wyld Hunt!"

"You were, but you are no more. You have done a feat on the boat that have put you on the anathema list of the Wyld Hunt, but you are lucky, they think you've drowned and you are safe, for now... that will give me plenty of time to teach you the basic of sorcery, and the true nature of that world. The dynastie have twisted a few fact to there advanatge. With some luck, maybe I will even be able to teach you some celestial sorcery and finally be free of that bound. But this time, before you go head down into another fool quest, I suggets you to find your circle. They must be around, somewhere in the creation."

"I don't understand..." replies Regis, hesitantly.

The dragon croach down and looks at the young Dynast straigth in the eyes with what could be define as a smile. "You are a Solar Exalted. A Copper Spider, a Children of Twilight or if you prefer an Unclean One. Ironic, isn't it."

*--------------------------------------------------------------*
Lesson of Fire: The ruins of lives
*--------------------------------------------------------------*

Regis was looking at the sun, who was setting down at the Horizon. He was thinking about all the value he had in hie life. The better of his family, the protection from the Creation, the hunt of the anathema. All that seems a lie now. All on what he standed now meant nothing. his family was no more than another plotting family for the throne of the Empress, the Creation was protecting himself, as the Wyld hunt was just another way for the Dragon-blooded to hold there power and the anathema was not devils, just powrefull being who has become imbued with there power, but today, it was easy to see the mistake of teh first age. All that could be avoid if they come back again.

"What now?" asks Regis to himself, not knowing the dragon was near him.

"You'll learn sorcery. You are ready. You now understand that you'll have to sacrifice all your possessions, all your contacts, all you powers in the empire, all your conviction if you want to survive in your new life. Peleps Regis is truly dead on this ship and from the water, Spider is born again. And tomorrow, you'll start to learn sorcery, that will be your reward. That, and another thing..."

The dragon truned around and led Spider farthe rinside the island.

"Why Silent Shark was here?"

"She came to this island for many reason, but the main one is one of the Lunar have turned into a chimera. She was here to hunt it, but it was too strong for her to met it one on one, so she was gathering information and tried to find a weakness. The chimera was often going into the shadowland, but she don't know why. But she was killed before she learn why."

"Where is the chimera?"

"Havn't you guess yet? It is dead now, thanks to your arrow. Blinded by it, Deled was able to finish the creature. Here we are." Both Spider and the dragon was looking at the moutain side of an old volcano that was standing at the center of the island.

"What is so special about that mountain tonight?"

"Make your caste mark appeared."

The caste mark appear in bright light on the forehead of Spider. At that moment, the mountain side seems to react, and an opening start to appear. Spider looked at the dragon with a questionning look. But it stayed silent. Spider entered the cave and walk on twenty meters before he see a large room. In it, there is a wall with many books, most of them have long time been destroyed. On the other wall, there is decoration showing a large vast plain. it was the same plain he had created during the first age, but with a city stading in the middle. And in the middle of the room is a the tomb, sculpted as a man holding a large cup. In it was laying a ruby. Spider now understood. This was the tomb of his exaltation of the first age, and also a manse. How he could have found his way here after the usurpation, it is hard to know, but it is here. He walks beside the tomb and opened it. He see the remaining of a man in an armor, a bow at one side, an axe on the other and bracers at his arms. All of great quality and in a golden metal, the orichalcum of the Solars. A great treasure. But the sad things is all the books, who must have been books about the first age technology and sorcery who has been destroyed by the time. What a waste...

Thanks a lot for the changes. He’s going to be great. I really liked the section with the chimera.

Now just to warn both you and Kalgalath, if both of you take Manse as a background, one on the East side of the world and one on the West, one of you will see your manse only once in a while. Now even though I want to start in the East, that doesn’t mean we won’t go to the West at some point. But you might not want to put too many points in it, since really only the Heartstone will do anything for you.[/sblock]

Hey, I replied to the thread you posted on the WW forums about this game, but I thought it'd be better to reach you here. Are you still looking for that fifth Eclipse player?

I am having concept:

A Varang astrologer, fated to be one of the best in the land, but deposed of this position when his predictions didn't turn out to be correct (due to a demon in the land, although this wasn't known at the time). He adapted to his exile status and became a spirit diplomat, learning to deal with gods, elementals and the ocassional Fair Folk, riding through the city-states on an Austrech mount, interceding in favor of his people, who, though they thanked him and told great stories about his ecploits, shunned him for his status. When he found himself out of his depth, assailed by a pride of lion-shaped Fair Folk bent on enslaving the Southernmost cities of Varang, a young Sidereal is sent to save him (as he was important for the Destiny of the region), but he ended up Exalting as an Eclipse Caste and saving them both. In time, they've become lovers, and although they try to help each other, a dark fate would befall them both should anyone in Yu-Shan learn of their relationship.

[sblock=Macguffin]Sounds pretty good to me. Start fleshing it out a bit more and working on the details, but the basic concept seems fine. He seems like he might be fairly old, not that there's aproblem with that, just that he's been though a lot and had mulitple possitions of power in his community. I'll have to do some reading on the Varang area, as that's one I never really looked into. And you know that we'll maybe start in the North East, but frankly I'm going to wait until everyone has put in their ideas.[/sblock]

[sblock=Shayuri]

As the only player without a concept right now, you have the option of Exalting in the game. Meaning you would come up with his background, and how he gets to where ever the game starts out in. But he'd start unexalted.

You would still pick Charms and make a full character, but you'd also make a Heroic Mortal version as well (pg 81) As I wrote before, the game would be about you exalting. If you read the comic book, sort of like that. It puts you in a difficult place at first, as there would be at least one scene as a Mortal, but exalting would happen sooner than later.

Only one thing: If you want spells or Martial Arts, you'll need to be trained. Spider could teah you magic in game, but unless someone else takes whatever M Arts Form you wanted, you have to seak out a Sifu. Until you trained, you wouldn't be able to use those charms, which could be really neat. I'll certainly bump up EXP Points for anyone willing to go though that.[/sblock]

After looking over your Character Sheet I noticed I forgot to put some stuff on. Mainly intimacies, DV's, Flaws and Merits, and Equipment. I edited the Sheet with those things, if you can think of anything else, let me know.

And as a general note, please with this much abilty to control your character, please play you stats. Don't give yourself a 1 INT and then come up with brillant plans. If you have a Valor of 1, you're not brave. I think of 2 as average and 3 as well above average. And 1 is piss poor. Unless it's an ability, then it means begining level training, 0 is piss poor at that point.

So what does it mean to have a charisma, compassion, conviction, and manipulation of 1. It means something that for certain. I hope that he will be an absolute ass to each and everyone. And by no means will anyone like him. Fear him, maybe. But he won't be winning any friends over to the circle. Frankly the circle might start wondering why they hang out with him. Then again, he is got a 5 in Appearance. He's a male model.

Okay...

Flawless Background Elaboration Prana!

I was Abarou, Most Auspicious Starwatcher, and this was my story.

I was born exactly at midnight. This may not seem very relevant to you, as an outsider, but in the glorious city of Yane, the clocks towering above the auspiciously-aligned streets determine life from the very moment of birth. Midnight is the time auspicious for astrologers, as the stars are in full view and shining. And, indeed, the stars seemed to shine on me, with the astrologers predicting nothing but glory and success for me since the day of my birth. My parents, high-caste citizens proud of the traditions of Varang, sent me off to learn the Art of Astrology from a young age. I desired nothing more but to be what everyone wanted me to be, a great astrologer, a source of pride for my parents, and to fill my preordained place in society. I was a good student, learned eagerly and pleased my master. It was not easy, but I was content, I was doing what I should. Then, one of the happiest days of my life, I was given the Adept Degree of Astrology and released from my apprenticeship, to advise the highest of city nobility.

The lord of Yane himself, encouraged by the good omens surrounding me, trusted me to predict when his daughter should travel south to Kriss to meet her husband-to-be. Honored with this assignment, I passed whole weeks sleepless, studying the stars and elaborating complicated charts. I took everything into account, missed no detail, of that I am sure... or maybe the clouds of memory are embelleshing the situation. Nevertheless, I was sure that if she left on the first week of Ascending Earth her voyage would be swift and no harm would come to her. I presented the lord with all the calendars that predicted this very outcome. I was certain, so very certain... which is why I was caught by surprise when the news of the lord's daughter's death reached me. She had died on the road, her caravan assaulted and annihilated. Yet it was not possible! The stars themselves had said otherwise! To this day, I still do not know how that young lady perished, and by now I am sure it will forever remain a mistery, but I do know it was that event that changed my life forever.

I was cast out of the caste of astrologers, stripped of my wealth and position and even my family. I could either kill myself, which would have been the honorable thing to do, or I could live on the edges of society as a worthless drone or petty criminal. I chose neither of those options. Instead, filled with stubbornness and frustration, I wandered South, to try and learn how it came to be that my Art failed me. I never did unravel that enigma, but I met outsiders on the road, who taught me how to survive in the wilderness, how to use a bow to hunt or defend myself and, most of all, they taught me that things could be achieved through will and perseverance, not only through preordained fate. So I continued travelling South, and I started using what I knew of magic to help people, and make a living. At first it was mainly with outsiders, but in time even other Varangians approached me, in my grey and black clothes of an outcast, and asked me for help with spirits, elementals and ghosts. I learned to deal with these fickle beings, and though it did not earn me much respect, it earned me enough to eat, and a sort of small legend. After all, no caste in Varang was dedicated to dealing with spirits in the way I did, so I filled an empty niche.

For many reasons, I never settled down, but kept travelling South until the savannah turned to desert and towns were farther and farther between. These were dangerous lands, but here people required my help more urgently, and that meant that I was more readily accepted by them. It had its dangers, but I always survived, if not victorious, at least with my skin. Until the storm, which came in the form of unnatural, glittering sand, made of ruby and emerald dust and bringing scents of spices unknown in Creation. The Wyld took me then, and it would be many years until I completely escaped its taint. I know I continued working as a diplomat between humans and spirits, but many of the former were the mad Fae instead of the comparatively predictable gods. I recall finding a beast, a crimson Austrech, in a field of white feathers bloodied by the remnants of a great battle. I fed it a pint of my blood and it has followed me ever since, a loyal, if disturbing, companion. I recall the barbarians, the dune people, and forests made of glass which bore fruits made of precious gems that would turn you to a statue if you ate them. I remember many images, blurry and distorted as if an age had passed since, and maybe it has. The Wyld does strange things to time and memory, and I am quite sure I am younger than I should be, knowing as I do the date of my birth, and the stories that are still told about me in Varang. Why am I not mutated beyond all recognition is beyond my ken, maybe my story was strange enough for the tainted lands to accept me as I was, but I came out of the Wyld with a new name and a new identity, and on a path to break my own destiny.

That path started to reach it's end when Forhali, Mane of Brass and Gold, broke an oath. He had vowed to listen to me represent a nearby village. I was trying to save the townsfolk from his pride's depredations by offering a tribute. However, the Pacherenai know no mercy, or anything but contempt for humanity, and they trapped me, surrounded me, and prepared to hunt me down through the endless plains. This is when she appeared. A woman of the East, her hair the color of leaves in autumn, features I had never seen before in all my troubles and yellow eyes in which stars shone. Such beautiful eyes, too. She tried to save me, and she was mighty in the ways of combat and with many magics I had never seen before, an aura of the purest saffron and the sign of Mercury. She fought with valor, but she could not match the fae's rage; so she ran with great speed, but could not match the lion's leaps; so we stood before them, back to back, a simple bow in my hands, but a great desire in my heart. I wanted to save her. I had always been content with my fate, had always believed all that happened to me was ordained. I would've died that day without putting up much of a fight, I could tell my time had come, that my story was at an end. But I could not bear to see her come to harm, whoever she was. She had fought to save me, an outcaste who deserved nothing.

And she had the most beautiful eyes...

And so, the sun darkened in midday, and then lit up again upon my brow, and while a ghostly halo surrounded the eclipse above, I shot three cataphracts between the eyes and rode Bloodfeather far from the plains, the blessing of the Unconquered Sun and Mercury speeding our way. She introduced herself as Jade and Copper Leaf Inauspicious, a Sidereal Chosen of Journeys... and she told me of the history of the world, and my place in it. We spent many nights together and many days fighting side by side and, in time, our fates became deeply entwined, though we both knew great ruin would surely stem from this. Hope seemed cheap those days, and I vowed that Heaven would make a place for Solars among its midst and in Creation, and she promised to help me however she could. She brought me Breath of Suns, a bow of gold purer than gold itself, and news from the heavenly city of Yu-Shan. Every day she is not by my side I pray for her safety, and to see her again soon. I have long forgotten how to draw fates from them, but I look at the stars and think of her, and hope she is not discovered.

I am Fifth Bodhisattva of Lost Heaven, and this is my story.
