I'm waiting for the Underdark book to come out. At the moment I am excited about my last Forgotten Realms purchase: Unapproachable East and the fact that I may even be DMing D&D regularly again :)

I wait to read reviews on EN World. If a product gets two or more 4/5 reviews, I feel confident in getting it.

Midnight was one of those products, and I wasn't disappointed--and in fact was one of the rare new books that got me excited about the game all over again. Delta Green(CoC) was one of the last product lines that had me all wet & quivering inside before Midnight... I tried to be excited about Spycraft and Cthulhu d20 but in the big picture they just didn't get my pulse pouding the way Delta Green always seems to.

Generally I can't afford all the cool new books so I have to be selective kinda by default.

Yeah, I'm excited!

And who wouldn't be?

D&D3.5, Arcana Unearthed, Underdark, Creature Collection III (at least a rumor of it), Ghostwalk, Testament, Warcraft D&D, GammaWorld, Conan d20, Ravenloft DMG, Star Wars Galactic Campaign Setting, Skulls&Bones, Warlords of the Accordians, Dragonlance, Book of Exalted Deeds... the list goes on and on and on...

Add to that the little surprises from the pdf-crowd, which to me adds a whole extra dimension of excitement!

And that's just the D&D and d20 stuff.

Yeah, I'm excited. I'm broke and unhappy because I can't get all the stuff I want, but at least it's a lot of exciting stuff coming down the line!

Cheers!

Option #3. Sometimes I get excited about a potential new release (though not often). Most of the d20 industry is going in a direction I don't care for, so I get the big "meh" going a whole lot.

Currently, Eden's upcoming Fields of Blood has got me "excited". I like anything by NG (though not excitement level) - but Lost City of Barakus has got me feeling a bit jumpy.

Mercenaries Update

I was incredibly excited about Mercenaries: Born of Blood last September... I think it's now a GenCon release. To say that the continual wait sapped my excitement is an understatement. I doubt it's going to be 3.5 compatible (although that's probably not a big deal); I don't even know if the science fiction portion of it is compatible with D20 Modern or not.

The whole thing was written before D20 Modern came out. The science fiction portion was actually written to be as closely compatible as possible with the only sci-fi D20 system out at that time (Dragonstar). There may be other anachronistic issues in the book, like the whole "which monsters you can use" issue. OC can probably answer better than I could.

In terms of compatibility with 3.5, that's been a constant concern for me, but I think it's not that bad. I have to go back and look at the manuscript again. I imagine the biggest challenge is the skills, but those are easy to switch.

The good news is that Mercenaries DOES EXIST (no, I don't have a copy yet). I know this because someone at http://www.ogrecave.com said:

OtherWorld Creations has Mercenaries: Born of Blood (I think that's the title) new at the show; it includes rules for making a mercenary out of virtually any creature in the Monster Manual. I'm thinking shambling mound.

In order to talk about rules for making a mercenary out of "virtually any creature," the author of that comment had to have read it. So YAY it can be read. That means it can be BOUGHT. That means it will be at Gen Con...I hope!

I sympathize with your sapped enthusiasm. I turned that book around in three months (with a day to spare!) in the hopes that the book would be out in time for Gen Con...of last year. :)

I still get pretty excited. In fact, since my FLGS is only six blocks from my apartment, it's a daily struggle to not pop in there every single day and buy something, anything. :)

It's not a rumor. :)

Tease!

Give details, man...details!

Responding to the thread, I'm very interested to see what WotC does with Unearthed Arcana...rumored to be out next year.

Dave,

I can't tell you a whole lots SINCE I only managed on submission. But I do know this book will cover more monsters/creatures from Termana and the other new continent Asherak...and maybe just some other stuff too. Have to wait and see.
