Existing prestige racial levels

DMH

First Post
Using the terminology from Wildwood, I am wondering what sources have similar "classes"? The first one I ever read was the ghast levels for the ghoul template in Atlas' Fantasy Bestiary. Then came Shaping the Self (Genjitsu) which is just about racial advancement via levels. And the most current is Clockwork Golem's Bugbear Feats and Throwbacks (the throwback is a racial class). And, of course, there are the racial levels in Unearthed Arcana. (Personally I like those found in StS more, esp the human levels)

So what else is out there?

Racial levels are just racially restricted prestige classes.

When I wrote the ghast prestige class for the Fantasy Bestiary I thought a prestige class was a neat mechanical way to present an advanced higher monster with different powers, which the standard ghast seemed to be based on its variation from the ghoul. It also allowed more gradation differences between the two so you could present ghouls who were part way on the path to being a ghast.

St. John's College of Abjuration has some three level racial spellcasting classes that are interesting.

Many race books have racial prestige classes. The DMG has arcane archer and dwarven defender, and Unearthed Arcana (by WotC, not Monte's AU) has racial levels for the core races plus a few.

Ew to people having any of those, other than vampire, as an ancestor. Clearly, some people shouldn't be allowed to drink and hook up.

Remember that bloodlines do not represent actual birth descendence, but can be indicative of curses, omens, predispositions, magical effects, etc...

In the case of ghoul bloodlines in my campaign, they are common among those who's ancestors were cannibals, etc.

... but let's face it, if a Ghoul wants you, you're pretty much his or her statue for the night... :uhoh:

True, but there isn't many classes that cause major positive mutations (for lack of a better term) like prestige racial levels.

Thanks everyone for the examples.

Oh, and since it looks like it hasn't been stated, Monte Cook's Arcana Unearthed/Evolved has racial levels for their races.

Plus Mythic Races has race specific prestige classes for each of the new races it introduced.

I forgot one of the most interesting- the bull lord class in Maze of the Minotaur. Bull lords are the "adult" form of male minotaurs and the author broke down the bull lord in a manner like Savage Species. So a minotaur must slowly gain the abilities after it survives the tests. The reason I like that more than those "classes" is that I don't like the idea that the powers of creatures like dryads are learned and not inherent. The bull lord is a growth both mentally and physically from another stage of life.
