Exotic Weapons and a fighting style.

Dagger75

Epic Commoner
I was going to try something a little new in my campaign.

For the elves so far,

If we got a character that takes an Exotic Weapon Prof in the Thinblade from the Dragon Magazine and The Elven Leaf Dagger (something I made up tiny weapon Dmg 1d6) I was going to have certain fighting style when these weapons are used together.

Basically if you have Exotic Weapon Prof Thinblade and Leaf Dagger AND you use one in each hand you get a +1 hit and +1 to damage because of the "fighting style" used when these weapons are used together. No other feats are required except the exotic weapon prof.

Does that seem lame, to powerful, or soemthing else?

Comments please.

I'm not sure I've got the whole idea. Are all races going to get a racial weapon proficiency fighting style combo? Will it have to be a dual wielding technique or a double weapon to get this virtual +1 and what kind of bonus is this? A Competence Bonus? Also, would Weapon Focus & Specialization with magic weapons start to get out of hand at lower levels?

Just my first impressions. At the same time, it makes taking an exotic weapon proficiency more palatable and flavorful (unless the weapon is clearly broken). I've always hated exotic weapons that just make you go up one damage dice. Lame!

I wanted nothing more that havin the Exotic Weapon Profs for the abilities. I was going to make it a compentence bonus to attack and damage.

You don't need the two weapon fighting or ambidexterity but it would help. Also the bonus would only take effect when using both weapons.

Example 3th level Elven Fighter. All 14's(+2) in all stats.
Feats Level 1 Exotic Weapon Thin Blade
Bonus Exotic Weapon Elven Leaf Blade
Level 2 Ambidexeterity
Level 3 Two weapon Fighting

BAB +3
Melee Attack Bonus +5

With only Elven Thinblade in hand
Elven thinblade +5 to hit Dmg 1d8+2

Without my fighting style idea fighting with both weapons

Thinblade +3 to hit Dmg 1d8+2
Leaf Dagger +3 to hit Dmg 1d6+1

With Elven Thinblade and Elven Leaf Dagger in each hand with my Fighting style idea

Attack With Thinblade +4 Dmg 1d8+3
Attack with Leaf Dagger +4 Dmg 1d6+2

I think its a fair trade off for taking 2 Exotic Profs. And yes weapon focus and weapon specialization would stack with this bonus. This one you have to be an Elf (or half elf) to use. I am making one for Orcs (and half orcs) on the same idea.

I hope this is clearer.

Just dont forget to leave out dwarves! :) Or halflings or gnomes...honestly every race would have some sort of "combination", even if its as simple as giving half-orcs +1/+1 with the orc double axe, Im for it. Nobody uses double weapons :(

Technik

PS- Since I dont use either the thinblade or the leafblade, I would probably award +1/+1 with the double bladed sword for elves and half-elves. Orcs and half-orcs get it with double axe. Dwarves would get a bonus with that weird "urgosh" thing Ive never seen anyone use. Gnomes and Halflings are tough though. Gnomsih pick +1/+1, but what about the little guys?

I think noone uses double weapons because, deep-down, they understand just how ridiculous most of them are.

Well, except the quarterstaff, and the double-bladed lightsaber from Star Wars.

I'd require Ambidex and TWF, as well as perhaps Weapon Focus with both weapons. This is basically because it fits the feel of the style, and also because style benefits shouldn't be gettable before 5-6th level IMO. Notice how most of the styles in OA have lots of prereqs meaning that you have to be at least mid-level before you can master them.

Double Style
You have mastered the art of wielding a double sided weapon.
Prerequisites: Exotic Weapon Proficiency, Weapon Focus, Two-Weapon Fighting, Ambidexterity.
Benefit: You gain a +1 competence bonus to attack and damage rolls with the given exotic double weapon.
Special: This feat may only be taken in conjunction with exotic double weapons. Examples include (but are not limited to) Double Sword, Double Axe, Quarterstaff (which does not require the Exotic Weapon Prof), Dire Flail.

Technik

PS- A 1st level ranger can still get this if human, and it only takes fighters till 2nd. Should I include a BAB prerequisite?
