Expanding the D&D brand?

Or instead of action figures, how about practical items that people could use every day, such as displacer sheets, tea-holders, towelbears, uniphones, griffocrons (like crayons)?
- Backpack "of Folding"?
- Runic Tunic?
- Headband of Distraction? (To draw attention away from Runic Tunics?)
Apparel and toys can both be done. In fact, there are some licensed D&D t-shirts available.

Can't XP yah, but thanks for the correction.

Also, you can buy a [URL="http://www.thinkgeek.com/computing/bags/aaa5/?itm=bag_of_holding&rkgid=404422450&cpg=ogho1m&source=google_home_office&creative=10886891325&adpos=1t1&gclid=CP_wgNfUqK8CFQrCtgodp3JlaA"]bag of holding
- one of my gamers got one shortly before going to college.

...And I'm also now reminded of the various D&D themed Jones soda (I liked the taste of "healing potion" best - another of my gamers ordered some on a whim and shared them with our group).

Computer games. There's DDO, but otherwise 3E and 4E have been a wasteland in terms of computer gaming.

The SSI and then Bioware days were glorious.

It's that whole "Compelling Story" thing. D&D doesn't really have any, so there's no reason to use it as a direct source when you can just use some of it as inspiration and do your own thing with your own property and your own more-specific rules.

D&D-inspired dice and card games have come and gone.

What D&D's really missing to draw in an audience is compelling stories about groups of friends doing wonderful things.

All D&D seems to have anymore is Drizzt.
I just want to state, that in the Panel it really sounded as if all D&D games allow Wizards as a subsidiary of hasbro not to rush 5th edition. They clearly stated, that all those other games count as D&D money. So what 4e should have done, generating 200 Milions? is now achieved with board games with D&D on it too. And since those games base on 4th edition rules and seem to be quite good, we all seem to profit.

So please, stop doing snarky comments how the RPG should be improved... they are doing it... and hopefully without the need to hurry...

One of 4E's many glorious contributions.

"Compelling story" is not snark, but a genuine need for a system built around fantasy storytelling.

Yeah, but it does work with 4e. Compelling story has nothing to do with the game system. Adventures may be lacking in parts, but if you had no compelling stories at all in the last few years, it is rather a problem with your gaming group, not with withards of the coast.

Dude, I run a 4E game. MY game has a compelling story because I'm a storyteller by nature. D&D as a product, however, lacks a compelling story to draw a wide swath of people into the world from outside the game.

This isn't about individual, private games, this is about the product as expressed by the designers, the marketers, and the tie-in products.

Yeah I did that for my group, they were pleasantly surprised.

But what would be really cool are D&D animal cookies...except with iconic monsters like displace beasts, beholders, dragons, etc.

Another idea... A limited edition ale stein called the "Flagon o Dragons".

And a personal favorite..."Dungeons & Truffles", a pack of chocolate truffles In the shape of potion vials. The packaging would be in the shape/tone of dungeon walls for miniatures, just cut out as you desire.
