First Post
I'm looking for input on a purchase of an online play software.
Any input on what people are using and how its working for them would be great.
At the moment I'm torn between two- Screenmonkey and Fantasy Grounds.
Your help is appreaciated,
Andy

I haven't looked at Screen Monkey in a while, so I won't comment on it.

At present, I am running Age of Worms via Fantasy Grounds. It's pretty good, easy to use and didn't have a steep learning curve to get things off and running in it. More and more I am finding that I really use it for a shared whiteboard, die roller and character sheet keeper. We chat using Ventrilo, which speeds things up greatly.

FG does have it's share of frustrating problems. Crashes when masking large maps or dragging new tokens onto the map. Not saving the combat order (I now use paper much like I would at tabletop) or the token locations (I take screenshots at the end of the session now) are frustrating. There is a new version coming out someday that is supposed to address a lot of the shortcomings, but if you want something easy to learn and use, FG was the winner for us over some of the other ones out there.

When we evaluated, we looked at OpenRPG, ScreenMonkey, Kludge, Fantasy Grounds and one other that is slipping my mind at present. FG was the most expensive but also the one we all liked the most.
