Explain the Fiend of Possession's Weaknesses

You're right, this is one of the few situations where that class can really shine.

Update: I'm still really not sure if the FoP should be able to benefit from items all the time. This time I'm curious about what happens when it's possessing someone, since the FoP etherealness ability specifies that you (and your gear) stop being ethereal when you possess someone.

The Spirit SHaman (Complete Divine) has several abilities that help. 1) Ability to SEE spirits in the first place. 2) Dealing with possessing creatures. 3) A "rebuke" that's basically "Anything that qualifies as a spirit (which I think the FoP should) is hit with this for xd6 of damage (w/ save for 1/2)."

So the group assaulted some enemies that knew they were demons and knew they were coming. Protection from Alignment / Magic Circle really messed with the FoP. It's strange, considering that any number of people had dispel and the FoP himself had dispel but never tried it.

If you have Tome of Magic, the Witch Slayer PrC could really help out. The class has some very nice abilities against possession.
