Explaining 3.5 to a 2nd Edition Veteran

Sigh. I was just hoping for a few good responses. Instead, I got a lot of great responses, and one stupid flame war. :(

Perhaps next time you guys want to toss around the gasoline, you'd be kind enough to start your own thread?

At any rate, thanks to everyone who provided some useful insights. I think this will be a great way to bring said players up to speed.

Unfortunately, this is a topic that can get heated. This gets repeatedly locked down due to flaming over on the WOTC boards on a regular basis. People believe in what they do and will defend it, no matter how heated it can/will get in the end.

I'm sorry to have been involved Spider, I feel my first post was my full opinion to your question. Unfortunately, using 3e and AnyE in the same thread brings out the edition cultists that lurks on every D&D board. :)

Heh, fair enough. Maybe I *was* just askin' for it. :)

Well, at any rate, I'm quite pleased with the constructive responses. Thanks all!

I just don't understand why some people thought that 3e was under attack. As far as I could make out it wasn't. I certainly was not attacking it.

I most certainly was not trying to continue a flame war - but sometimes when you pour oil on troubled waters it ignites... Sorry about that.

I think they thought that 1e and 2e were under attack...... ;)

...

I agree completely. As far as I could tell there was no sustained 'attack' on 3e in this thread. It certainly was not the motive behind my own post.

This had nothing to do with "edition cultists" lurking here. :\

It had to do with the fact that, for some mysterious reason, you perceived some pretty straight-forward advice (namely, that it might be helpful for people used to pre-3e D&D to approach 3e as a new game) as a 'bash' on 3e.

i agree with Akrasia here.

people who both enjoy and despise d02 agreed on the advice.(ex. Crothian and diaglo).
