[Exploits] Ranger Daily: Split the Tree

They should insinuate in the text the ranger tinkers with the arrows manually, orputs hi finger between the shafts or something to justify the arrows striking different targets. The game is aimed at nOObs as well as vets. Most nOObs, especially those who are rpg'ing for the first time will have trouble figuring out how to describe this in character; I would not blame them to think the ranger must be using magic somehow to make arrows change direction in midair as the text states
Two things: First off, all we are seeing is the stat block on a preview character sheet. We don't know how the rule in the books will read. That said I really hope they don't do as you suggest. I don't want a lot of text explaining exactly how a power works. That is up to the players to do if they really want to. From my experience I don't see many players spending much time explaining their powers in character.

Yes, this power does seem to be based on the Kevin Cosner 'Robin Hood Prince of Thieves' shot where he tears the fletching on two arrows at once with his teeth, then shoots two oncoming horsemen holding the bow horizontally.

I remember at the time it came out, I saw a 'making of' documentary with the stunt co-ordinator and the expert bowman they'd hired for the archery stunts. They'd theorized that it was possible to do, and attempted to do it for real, but in the end they were forced to do a split-screen.

However, the expert did say he had perfect confidence that the stunt could be done for real. The movie's actually one of the better resources for historical combat.

The damage boost -- double standard (and longbows are up to 1d10, too) -- is pertty powerful. But since it's 1/day, I guess it will work out OK as long as you have lots of encounters in a day.

While certainly far from real-life, or real-life combat. Doesn't Legolas perform a similar feat in LoTR... I believe in Return of The King.

The name "exploit" makes sense for martial powers, but I find myself reading through threads and thinking it's a bad thing when someone is talking about an "exploit". My mind registers it as an exploit in the rules to be taken advantage of for a bit.

I'll get used to it, it's just kind of...confusing at the moment. Anyone else having this "problem"? :P

Yes. "Exploit" has too many negative rules connotations for me.

Feat would be a better word, but it was already taken. I think "maneuver" is better than "exploit", but "maneuver" still isn't quite right.

I guess we will simply have to grow used to the new definition of exploit.

I guess we should all just read the dictionary definition for a month and we will be good:

ex·ploit
–noun
a striking or notable deed; feat; spirited or heroic act: the exploits of Alexander the Great.

I think re-reading that for a month will get the notion in my head :P

I'm late in this thread, but I agree it is poor wording, 'separate during flight' would be better.
And now, in the spirit of experimentation, I am going out into the field with my longbow and I am gonna give it a go! I don't hold out much hope :p
