Extinguish Light Ability

I'm working on a conversion of the whispering moths, and they have the following curious ability:

Whispering moths are drawn to any source of fire and magical light, even in the middle of combat; however, rather than being destroyed by these lights or fires, a swarm always manages somehow to magically douse it, restoring darkness. Even permanent light sources such as continual light spells or magical weapons are extinguished by the power of the moths.

This sounds suspiciously close to a 3e ability (maybe a prestige class power?. Anyone know of a comparable ability.

There is a spell called control light in Relics & Rituals that simulates this effect.

Champions of Ruin has a spell called control darkness and shadow which somewhat simulates this effect.

We experimented with a similar power when we converted the nogra. I thought it came up with another creature, but it currently escapes me.

Yet again, Shade to the rescue! Thanks once more for the thought. I actually yoinked that nogra ability for a different conversion (3.5 update of the zombie ram, from Secret College of Necromancy).

I'll play around and see what I can come up with for the whispering moths.

Before you give me too much credit, I must admit my most embarassing oversight to date. My namesake creatures have the following ability:

Control Light (Sp): The shade can decrease the levels of light within a 100-foot radius by a factor of 10% per level. For characters and creatures dependent on light to see, this decreases the effective range of vision for them by the same percentage. For each 25% decrease in light, anyone within the area gains a +1 circumstance bonus on Hide checks.

:o :o :o :o :o

Looks good! I like the White Dwarf conversions you've got on the site, too. Those are few and far between.

Many thanks. It's a shame that so many of those WD monsters have been largely forgotten. Back in the day, many of 'em got lots of use in many house campaigns. I think several of these critters -- like the dream demon, for example -- still hold up 25+ years later.
