"Extras" is back - series 2!

Well, that was fun

The first episode of the second series was ecellent - Orlando Bloom making a complete fool of himself, convinced people prefer him to Johnny Depp ("Willy Wonka? Willy Wanker, more like!"). He's a lot like Ross Kemp who believed his "hard man" press in the first series - Bloom is constantly citing polls in crappy magazines which put him at the top of various "sexiness" charts.

Gervais' character is no longer an extra - his sitcom is being made. The comedy there revolves around his idea of what his sitcom should be, and the BBC's desire to make it appeal to the lowest common denominator.

Maggie's back. I was never that keen on the character, though. More of the same from her.

WHat channel is this on? Bloom thinking he's sexier than Depp. Hah! Now that is teh_funny.

It is on UK terrestrial television.

It is worth mentioning that film stars agree to appear in it and (often?) agree to lampoon their own film image. So Orlando Bloom isn't a complete twit, but acts as if he is for the purposes of this sitcom.

Cheers

Ah, I have never seen it on the BBC America lineup so we probably don't get it here. Of course if we did, a network here would steal the concept and then remake it and it would completely suck. LOL. (but I'm not still bitter over the demise of Coupling or anything)

The first season was on HBO. I only caught the Patrick Stewart episode, but it was positively delightful. I don't watch much TV and came in on just the tail end of repeats, but do hope HBO starts showing it again - second season and the first.

It wasn't the sort of thing to catch my attention, but having flipped to it while nothing else was on, I did come away enjoying it.

Then again, I'm a fan of Patrick Stewart in general. Between Extras and his erotic cake shop bit on SNL, I find he can be quite amusing. More so for the fact that he comes across so dignified, otherwise.
