Eye Beam ideas

Gish Makai

First Post
I'm not sure if this belongs in here or Homebrews but here it goes:

I am needing your help in the construction of eye beams for my newest creation. I want them dependant upon the type of gem set within the construct. These are what I want to use:

Ruby
Emerald
Sapphire
Onyx
Jade

Any help is appreciated.

maybe some inspiration will occur from corresponding neutral dragon breath weapons?

ever heard of the Mandarin from Iron Man comics? one of his rings makes an area of darkness - maybe that's what your onyx beam can do. just a thought!

Well obvisouly you;ve got the color thing... so here goes (off the top of my head)

Ruby (red) - blood, heat, fire, anger
Emerald (green) - slime, nature (some form of entangle maybe), toxic fumes, envy, greed
Sapphire (blue) - water, frost, ice etc, reflections, joy, laughter
Onyx (black) - death, war, pestilence, disease, darkness, hate
Jade (err... also green, but duller) - sickness, apathy, slothness, slowness, clumbsiness

I don't know if that gives you any ideas?

Well, it depends on what level your PC's will be when the encounter it. You don't want to disintegrate your 3rd level players, right? :D

Here are my suggestions - italicized signifies specific spell:

LOW LEVEL PC'S

Ruby: Magic Missile, Beam of Flame (similar to Burning Hands)
Emerald: Poison Gas, Ray of Enfeeblement
Sapphire: Ray of Cold (basically a very low level Cone of Cold), Chill Metal, Hold Person
Onyx: Bestow Curse, Ghoul Touch (as a ray)
Jade: Blindness/Deafness, Slow

HIGH LEVEL PC'S

Ruby: Maximized Fireball
Emerald: Insanity
Sapphire: Cone of Cold, Horrid Wilting
Onyx: Harm, Disintegrate
Jade: Flesh to Stone, Antipathy towards other PC's

Or.....

You could simply have it be unrelated to the colors and have each "eye" emit a beam that drains a particular stat:

LOW LEVEL:1d4, HIGH LEVEL: 3D6

Ruby: Strength
Emerald: Dexterity
Sapphire: Constitution
Onyx: Intelligence
Jade: Wisdom

Hope that helps!

Seems I recall a skeleton variety from a Dragon Mag that had this type of thing, Gem Eyes IIRC.

If someone can remember which issue, maybe you can take a look at that for ideas.
