Factotum skill question

Thurbane

First Post
According to Dungeonscape p.15, the Factotum treats any skill as a class skill.

Would this extend to "non-core" skills like Knowledge (Psionics), or Truespeak (ToM, p.195)? I guess by RAW the answer would be yes, but I'm just wondering what others would make of this...

Pg. 196 of Tome of Magic states the following: Of the standard classes, only the Truenamer has Truespeak as a class skill. Othe characters can avoid the high cost of cross class skills by taking the Truename Training feat.

Basically, the Truespeak skill is cross-class to all characters, unless they have a level in Truenamer or the Truename Training feat. Therefore, a character with levels in Factotum must have the Truename Training Feat in order to treat the skill as a class skill.

Thanks Fru.

Anyone else have a take on this? As mentioned, the Truespeak skill is obviously only intended to be available to specific characters - how does this reconcile with the fact that a Factotum treats any skill as a class skill?

I'd personally say that Factotum has, as its entry says, every skill as a class skill - including weird ones like Truespeak.

I'd agree with sukael, since Dungeonscape was released subsequent to Tome of Magic. But in any case, I've found from playing a factotum that there are plenty of standard skills to spend my points on. :)

Id allow a factotum to take ranks in truespeak. I dont think that it would overpower the class in the least.
I wouldn't allow it, my reasoning being the existence of the feat required to get Truespeak as a skill unless you've got levels in the Truespeaker class.
I would allow any other non-standard skills, like Autohypnosis that don't require a feat to get.
