Fading Suns D20.... how good is it?

[/B][/QUOTE] From the review: "Almost everything you need to run an amazing Fading Suns campaign is given to you in this book. While it most definitely wouldn't hurt you to read up on their other gaming products released in the Victory Point system, it is by no means necessary. This book gives you all the back story, classes, feats, creatures, spells and organizations you need to breathe life into your campaign."

Thats exactly what I wanted to hear.

I'm just trying to be careful what I buy since I felt like I got kinda burned on the d20 Deadlands stuff I bought.

I love the setting, but the conversion to d20 wasnt done very well IMO.

Just an afterthought

You should keep in mind that you will not have starship combat for another month or so... that is one thing that ducked my radar... but all in all, it is something a few quick house rules can cover until the canon product comes out. From this point on, all Holistic Fading Suns Products will have both Victory point and d20 rules, so their support of d20 is here to stay.

Thats not too big of a problem for me since I tend to just roleplay through and gloss over most space travel/combat anyways ;)

Kewl to hear that they will continue to support the d20 rules.

I consider it one of my few "wasted" purchases. I much preferred Dragonstar, tweaked out for a more gritty feel. Just 1 man's opinion though.

I usually prefer not to mix elves, dwarves and dragons with my Space Opera. Fading Suns is the thinking person's Space Opera, full of intrigues, secret societies, theocracies and dark premonitions.

Dragonstar is a tip of the hat to Spelljammer, and while I do not dislike either of these two settings, it just feels like DnD with a new environment tacked on. Give me Fading Suns any day of the week.

I don't have anything to say about the d20 setting, but the computer game based on the Fading Suns universe that came out 3 or 4 years ago was very cool.

Anybody play it besides me?

I was disappointed to find it used a normal hit points system, instead of WP/VP for a sci-fiction setting hit points just don't feel right to me.

But I suppose since WP/VP wasn't under the open gaming d20 flag they couldn't use it.

P.S. Are you talking about the diplomacy style turn based wargame that even had an option to play be email?

It's a very good d20 game. I loved Fading Suns even with the ancient system, with all it's quirks. Now, the clear d20 rules (they have done a very good adaptation) and the popularity they gives (it's easier to find players for a d20 game) have done it even more attractive.
