Are there official rules on falling into water?
If so could you either point me too them, or, if there are not official rules, suggest how you might handle it?
My thinking is currently that falling into water is effectively a fall of 10' less, and that damage taken is 1d6-1 subdual damage/10' + 1d6-1 damage/50' of the fall. Also that if you succeed a swim check (DC 9 + 1/10' fallen) (you take 0 if you don't know you are going to hit water) you reduce the height of the fall by an additional 20'.
For instance, you want to jump into water 70' below. Because you are falling into water, the height is automatically reduced to 60'. You attempt a jump check (DC 15) to reduce the height to 60', a swim check (DC 9+6=15) to reduce the height to 40', and a tumble check (if you know it, DC 15) to reduce the height to 30'. If successful, you take 3d6 subdual damage. If not successful, and the effective height of the fall was say, 60', you take 1d6-1 damage + 6d6-6 subdual. If you are low level, you are probably unconscious and drowning.
Is this too rough? Anyone out there an experienced high diver? Should I maybe begin by halving the effective height? Or am I being too gentle by making it 1d6 MINUS 1 damage?
