Fals life & temporary hit points

Well, thanks, guys. It helps to talk this stuff out with other rules-minded folks before handing out a ruling to the folks who just want the bottom line.

Actually, false life was just picking a familiar PHB instance. I'm more curious about temporary hit points when they're conferred by a favored soul with the Deity's Favor alternate class ability, which bestows temp HP whenever a spell is cast on an ally.

After this clarification you don't need my point, but I'll make it anyway.

Wizards (and especially sorcerers) should use false life as a 'pre-healing' spell. It has a wonderful long duration (1hr/level) so you cast it at the start of the adventure, and if your temp hit points start getting low re-cast it as soon as practical.

My sorcerer uses it (empowered now ) as a means of avoiding taking real damage as much as possible.

PS: I had a nice NPC once, rogue3 sorcerer... He used False Life and Vampiric Touch and Improved Invisibility.

He died because he rolled nearly minimum damage twice for the VT spell.

I had that discussion here before I used that dude... I don't know it anymore how it worked though

I think it did give him extra temp hp because of the spell description saying something like "the damage caused is added to ..." or so. It was a huge discussion though.
