Its an arachnid. Bugs are insects. Different # of body segments, different numbers of legs, arachnids never have wings etc etc. It is not a bloody bug! :]

Technically, if it has six or more legs and a chitinious carapace, it is a bug.

Insects, Millipedes, Arachnids, Crabs, Lobsters, Prawns, they're all bugs.

Krishnath's correct. In my experience, 'bug' is just a generic term, rather than a scientific classification. I could have said 'minibeast' I suppose, but I haven't said that word since I was about six years old.

So, in conclusion, it is a bloody bug! :p

Ok some observations.

You say arachnids never have wings but this one can fly. Does it glide?

You say it has a segmented tail tipped with a backward curving, long-pointed stinger. But its main attack is a bite? And arachnids don't have teeth. They have mandibles.

For a familiar it sure has a lot of special abilities. Looks pretty tough compared to my toad! ;)

Yup, its very light, and just spreads itself thin and jumps into the wind.

Yes, its tail curls under it instead of up over it, which is used to keep it more securely anchored to a branch or whatnot.

And yes, I know they don't have teeth, don't recall ever saying they did. What would you call a mandible attack. You have Slam, Claw, Bite, Sting etc etc. I picked the most suitable. Its the exact same thing as a bite. Lets not get ridiculous here ;)

Doesn't everything?

A raven, hawk, owl and bat can move far faster than this thing for one, and the bat gets blindsight or some such. A snake has venom etc etc. The canopy scorpion can't move as fast as any familiar on land or air, though yes, it can camouflage itself IF already in foliage, and it can relieve some very minor conditions once per day if they are not magical, everyone is nearby, and there is a chance that this affect would be detrimental.

Canopy scorpions are rather inoffensive creatures, but if sufficiently threatened will latch on with their teeth and inject a mild acid formed from a combination of oils from the vegetation they consume.

Sorry if I came on as being rude or anything. I was just trying to help you refine it. I would suggest you put something about it's gliding abilities in the description. Otherwise it's pretty cool.
