Does anyone out there know any good books depicting the collapse of civilisation through the good old four horseman?. I'm am thinking things along the line of The Stand (although I didn't think much of the second half) and various John Wyndham novels. The less said about Day of the Triffids though the better.

If your just looking for the Four Horsemen, without the end of the world, you could also try Reaper Man, another Terry Pratchett book. (or at least I think it was Reaper Man, there are so many Discworld books...)

Addng another Pratchett recommendation: Check out "Thief of Time". Besides being a very good book, it has an excellent treatment of the Five Horsemen (yes, I can count) of the Apocralypse (and yes, I can spell too). And always remember rule number one too.

Have you read Swan Song by Robert McCammon? It's a pretty dark fantasy type end of the world book. It was written in 1987 (I must've read this book for the first time when I was 17 or so, when it first came out). I just recently picked up a used copy of Swan Song, and read it for the first time since then.

It's an end of the world tale, a la the Stand, except the end of the world as we know it is via Nuclear War, and the focal point of the story is around a smaller group of main characters. It's not a bad book, and definitely is an interesting read because it dates itself (unlike the Stand, which has remained nearly timeless). Pick it up used or at the library, if you are interested, it's not that great of a book to pay $8.00 for. :-)

I read it years ago, must have been just after it was published and thought it was fantastic. Unfortunately I lent it to someone and never got it back, I've never actually seen it new or secondhand to buy though except online which I don't like to do.
