Man, those US wages... they're just.. . Guess it depends on tax and relative worth, as $36.000 is less than what the lady that scan your groceries in the supermarket makes here in Scandinavia...
Exchange rates don't take into account the difference in taxes (much lower in the United States than in Scandanavia) and all the other ways costs of living differ.

Seriously, $36,000 is solidly middle class anywhere in the United States (too little for a non-rent-controlled apartment in most of Manhattan on a single income, but enough for a decent place to live in another borough of New York City; able to live an above-average standard of living in much of rural America).

Hmmm... 750 USD, bring own lappy, move to Minnesota with just 3 month contract and no guarantee of LT job offer...

and the job poster seems very angry, demanding and anal...

I guess it's all about perspective. I see $36,000 as barely above poverty these days. That's what I made a decade ago without a college degree in a city with a population of 30k. Back then, in that city, it was a comfortable income.

Teachers, a notoriously underpaid job, make more than that here in Houston. The no-experience minimum pay is in the low $40k range. ( http://www.esc4.net/default.aspx?name=hr.emp_map_links ) If you're bored enough, you can search the districts. Most have their pay rates online. Of course, the teacher pay in my hometown (pop. ~1000) is around $27,000 starting out.

Also, note that it's $36K as a contractor. Which means no benefits -- most importantly, no health insurance. Some of you yoots might be able to get away with that, but, if health insurance is important to you, you'd be buying your own policy, which would take a good chunk out of that $36K.

So -

That also means they're planning on ponying up the $5000, correct?

I was wondering what tier they were going to be in. If they're going for tier one this is a surprise for me. I expected that FFG was getting out of the RPG end of things. I thought Paizo would have been one of the first (not counting their partnership with Necromancer).

Well, they do have to scare off those who just think working for the company as a 'dream job'. Demanding the application be a PDF sounds pretty nonstandard. Kinda sounds to me like "We want you to have Adobe Acrobat on your computer, but we don't want to make that look like a requirement.”

To Apply
To be considered, send us a single PDF document containing the following things, in the following order. Make the filename something similar to "firstname_lastname.pdf". Email it to write-dev@fantasyflightgames.com, as an attachment.

To me it looks like they want someone who is a little desperate for work.

I agree...or someone who really wants a break in the industry, and is flexible enough to be able to meet their requirements.

I AM BOTH!

But I'm also not in MN, nor would I be particularly willing to go there without the promise of long-term employment (and even then, I'd be shaky about it). From me, they'd be asking for a LOT, without really giving me much in return.

Other than that little detail, I think I'm exactly the kind of guy they're looking for. ;)

But it's perfect for someone who happens to be in the area already and who is doing some game design work. I'm sure there's a few folks who are doing it 'round those parts. :)
