Fantasy Focus?

Are any companies out there planning on doing more support for non-fantasy settings?

I know we have Dragonstar and the Spy books coming out, as well as the 7th Seas books. Privateer Press Iron Kingdoms is kinda Steampunk.

I'd like to see more focus on expanding the roles of the different books. The Quintessential Series for example, might've had some more things to say about rogues in different times and settings. No matter what time frame, there always seems to be time for rogues!

War is another example. Even though the psionics are on the gentlemen's agreement, we didn't see anything about them in the War book. Good thing I guess. "The powers of the mind can be devistating on a field of battle right? Right? Get an army of psychic warriors together to fight the good fight, as long as you have enough money to pay them!" Details on how much funds to get psyhich warriors not listed, nor suggestions as to what powers make the best ones. Reference to Mindwalker prestige class, a heavily armored fighter that beats an opponents brains out and walks over them is made that has nothing to do with psionics.

I imagine we'll have to wait until d20 Modern comes out. WOTC is supposed to add stuff from it to the SRD. I think AEG got special permission to use of the things from it in Spycraft (like the VP/WP system, though that's probably not copywriteable, anyway)

Still, the trouble is, it tends to split the fan base a bit.

For instance, parts spent on psionic classes or stuff would be useless for people who don't have the Psionics handbook. Which is why WOTC itself doesn't really support Psionics in it's books.

If a company makes a non fantasy setting, but say, horror, if it uses the original d20 rules, it can still sell it's monster book to fantasy d20 players. OTOH, if it uses the d20 modern rules, it will have a smaller audience.

Hmmm, there's going to be at least 5 published d20 sci-fi games.

Sci-fi
---------------

Star Wars
Broncosaurus Rex
Fading Suns
Traveller
Dragonstar
Cityscape (might be more cyberpunk)
Empire (??? From Otherworlds Creations)

Modern (or semi-modern)
------------------------------------------
Deadlands
Sidewinder
Spycraft
Call of Cthulhu
d20 Modern
Weird Wars
Forbidden Kingdom
Mutants and Masterminds
The Foundation (future support seems dead)
Deadlands: Hell on Earth

So, there's probably enough of a market for generic SF or modern d20 books. Considering we've seen at least 2 generic asian fantasy products, I would be surprised if we don't see some generic SF or modern books in the next couple years.

Don't forget Cyber Style (d20 Cyber Punk by DQG), which looks to be some seriously painstakingly thought-out stuff, from what little I've seen.
