Fantasy Genetics: Half-breeds

Hmm. A Draconic template would be hard to do.

Seeing as Half-dragons are as they are, they aren't the same as Half fiends, and the Fiendish template.

Half-fiends get powers with HD, the Fiendish template gives powers based on HD, they're vastly different from the Half-fiend. Let's look

Half-fiend:
Spell-likes,
Several ability mods,
Immunity to Poison,
Fire, Cold, Electricity, Acid res 20
Claw/Bite
Nat armor +1
Likelyhood of Wings.

Fiendish:
Smite Good
Damage Reduction
Spell Resistance
No adjustment for Stats (Sans minimum of 3 int).

They're not exactly balanced, in relation to one another. A half-fiend gets vastly different stuff then a Fiendish template (HFs don't get SR, DR, pointedly).

So, we could give the Draconic template SR, DR, and the like, as well as perhaps a Nat armor adjustment, likelyhood of wings (Although this is less likely, because most humanoids of medium size Don't get wings), and one energy type resistance. But I don't know how to justify saying a Draconic template gets SR, DR, and the like, whereas the Half-dragon does not.

I donno how to balance 'em right, myself. :)

Well, since I don't allow races to interpropagate without magic (even half-orcs and half-elves), this isn't really a problem.

I allow half-celestials, fiends and dragons, though, because of their magical nature. Following that same idea, plane-touched and half-elementals are okay.

Every other combination does not and cannot reproduce (without some epic level rituals/spells.) I guess I'm not a big fan of inter-species progeny.

Elrond be damned... ;)

I allow monster-human matings only if the monster can take on human form via polymorph or some such spell, since the physical characteristics remain the same, including sexual organs...I don't think mating is a supernatural or spell-like ability...but I could be wrong...

Say, that's a great idea for a special quality- Mating Compatibility (Su): This creature may mate with any creature that breeds as long as it is within two size categories of it.

Hmmm.... ideas.....

I have a 'Grisly Crossbreed' template imc, but it's for magical combinations. You ain't lived til you've fought a troll/phase spider cross.

*Shudder*

I would qualify that into the 'Strange Spell Accidents' catagory, or some Wizard playing god. Thus the reason for Owlbears and Griffons.

But, I would think certain monsters are sexually compatible with humans (Atleast anatomicly), if they're anatomicly similar. Giants, Monstrous humanoids, Humanoids, Fiends, Celestials, Djinns, and the like. Thus, I think it'd be freaky, but you could have half-gnolls, half-hobgoblins, and the like, since there are half-orcs.

Note, that only a FEW creatures have the ability to polymorph. So some of them's gotta be getting jiggy with humans without changing. Fiends are a good example; the only one that looks remoately ABLE is a succubus, since she's human lookin'.

Of course, there's always artifical incemination.

I'd say the highly magical mix of elven blood, celestial blood and draconic blood'd probably end up with somethint along the lines of an aasimar. The half-orc blood probably wouldn't get much of a chance to express itself with such competeters :p

PC: "That was a Potion of WHAT?!?!?!"

Bwahahahaha! Now I have to clean this mouthful of coffee off of my monitor. :p

In my game, I devised the Median Mixture, a potion which, when consumed by two individuals of opposite sex, makes them viable with one another for a time.
