Fast Forward Issues?

Treausre quests is a pretty good book. And there "power" books are pretty much as advertised they are more fiction works than game accessories.

I Have very high hopes for dungeon world if they do it right it could be a phenominal product the idea is very innovative,

While I certainly don't think they are the best in D20 companies they are not the worst either I wonder If Mr.Mona might not like the people behind Fast forward considering they were in upper management with TSR and might have been his bosses at one time. And he might know what he is talking about if this is the case.

I am going to take a wait and see attutude with them and see if Dungeon world is as good as it sounds.

Well maybe it's me...but there's NO way you could even GIVE me a copy of some of that stuff. It's just...well nonsencial. While I don't care much with the VEMON with Erik dispatched his opinion, I do agree that there's something wrong in the state of FFE. Still they might come around... After all once you hit bottom, there's only up left to come...or something like that! ;)

I ALMOST agree - except I think they could go lower. Demons and devils was... well... garbage.

They took the "design a monster" rules from Dragon magazine literally, which shows they don't understand d20 (I bet they've never even played it!). Just about every humanoid sized demon or devil had 2 hit dice, 9 hit points, and physical stats in the 10-11 range. How is that even remotely interesting? Especially when you give it massive spellcasting powers and a CR of 10?

After that one purchase, they get no second chances from me. That book was such a waste of shelf space I threw it in the recycling bin! And I'm not just saying that because Eloko and Makishi appear in African Adventures. :D

Nope. Jim Ward has been an ass to me on a number of occasions online, but as that seems to be his modus operandi, I highly doubt he even remembers. He and his ilk were long gone by the time I got on the scene, and have thankfully never been my bosses.

My "venom," as someone else posted above, comes from the fact that the back cover copy of their demon book literally oozes with arrogance and hubris. The insides show a company utterly unconcerned with game balance, which strikes me a lot like a car company that just doesn't give a crap about welding, and consequently doesn't pay any attention to making sure that their joints are welded accordingly. This type of carelessness infects several (if not all) of their products. When called on it, they have a nice little laugh at their customers and make them look like idiots on their message boards.

I'm not making this up. Go check it for yourselves.

Until these guys shape up their act, they're running the most blatantly arrogant money-grab in the industry. If calling them on that is venomous, pass me the jar of poison.

Oh, and CWD hit the nail on the head. I'd be astonished if the "masterful and award-winning design team" has ever bothered to play 3rd Edition D&D. Their design belies an ignorance of the rules unlike any other company in the industry.

I don't know if Monte Cook's "shut up and play" rant was written with the MAA-WDT at Fast Forward in mind, but it's certainly interesting to read it in that light. Cook, after all, did work with these guys.

I glanced through the Demons and Devils book (as I was planning on purchasing it), but then I realized how bad it really was. Thankfully I didn't buy it.

I agree with the consensus in this thread about this book (and several of their other books as well). Also- I think my fave part of Demons and Devils was the 16 HD version of Asmodeus as the King of Hell...blah blah blah

Well who ever Monte addressed that thread too, he doesn't have to worry about me buying stuff from THESE guys. I'm saving my cash for guys I KNOW that care. ESPECIALLY ones that enjoy coming here, like you Erik, and that don't mind talking about what they ENJOY about the new edition as well as new ideas.

Still I was taken aback by your vemon Erik...But hey I'll believe you over those guys ANY DAY! :)

My local game store has never carried a single Fast Forward product. I only ever heard of them on EN World, and was going to purchase Demons and Devils until I read the scathing reviews... I don't think I'll be giving Jim Ward any of my hard earned gaming dollars after reading this thread, LOL.

Erik, are you saying Crunchy Frog/Team Frog/Nightshift Games is out of business? Those guys made the worst RPG crap ever... that I've seen. If FFE is even worse (or as bad)... OUCH!

His reviews are usually okay but I don't recall him every going, "This is not a worthwhile investment at any price." I'm kinda leery of reviewers that don't spend enough time with the negative qualities of a product.

On his web page he says up front he only wants to spend time reviewing things he really likes. That said there is a small list of product lines he does not like at the bottom of his reviews page (one sentence as opposed to indepth reviews). I would expect all of his cross posted reviews on the EN review board to rate the products in the 4 to 5 range.
