Wizards of the Coast has no interest in pursuing the Star Wars license agreement with LucasFilm beyond its Miniatures product line. This final decision came only very recently, which is why there has been such a delay in an announcement. With no roleplaying products coming out or scheduled, the roleplaying organized playdivision (the RPGA) will not support a second campaign set in the Star Wars universe.

It's dead, Jim.

Still kind of funny that the only announcement was from the RPGA and not anywhere where more people can see it. But, ah well, its not that surprising.

The question is, will future Missions books for the mini's game continue to include RPG stats? And will the website still be updated semi-regularly? Because, hey, that's better than nothing at all, despite the fact that I've got enough to play the game right now...and have been since the release.

Have to say, though, I'm damn glad I have all the books now. Once this spreads I get the feeling it may be even harder to find some of the books than it already is.

Sucks to be a Star Wars fan right now. :(

Truthfully, its not that bad. Considering that the game's been in limbo for well over a year now with no real support beyond a little here and there on the website...this doesn't change much.

At least it gives us the official word, which was the biggest problem. At least we KNOW now, instead of things being left in the air without any word from anyone about anything.

Besides, I'll still keep playing, running games, bringing in new players, and updating my Story Hours. :)

Was the line not selling?

It was second to only D&D for a while, but that was a long time ago now, and still a long way behind D&D.

But beyond that, Lucas Licensing seemed to have an interesting agreement with WotC in which it gave a bottom and top number to the amount of products that can be released each year. The minis game falls into this and, for obvious reasons, is simply more profitable than the RPG.

So, in a sense, its the mini's fault that the RPG is not getting support...but then again, we screamed for the minis in the first place after D&D got its line. Just how things play out, and at least the minis are good and are something to keep 'support' of sorts still going.

If true, that really sucks. Hard. And if true, a pox on minis. :]

Well, I am in favor of the SW Minis so I have something to use with my SW d20 RPG; I think the minis game kind of stinks, but still play it with my buddy as a favor to his eight year old son who is too young for RPGs. There is enough material available to run SW now and enough fan material to fill in the gaps (KOTOR sourcebook, etc.). Of course, being an RPG player and GM, one can NEVER have enough RPG material. You know, you can't even discuss the future of the SW d20 line on the WoTC boards? :(

We have started an online petition to "save" the Star Wars game...

SIGN THE "SAVE STAR WARS d20" ONLINE PETITION HERE!!!
http://www.petitiononline.com/savswrpg/petition.html

It can't hurt to sign it. We have over one thousand signatures gathered so far and the WoTC higher-ups are aware of it. Whether or not they restart the line is another matter, but it's better than sitting around bitching about it. An online petition may be our best and only shot... Please sign it and tell your friends to sign it!

The discussion thread about the petition is here:

You know, that's because:
(a) with no new news forthcoming from WotC on the subject, there was nothing new to discuss
(b) the threads devolved into nothing but flame wars
(c) it *is* a company-owned board, and there was a lot of anti-WotC venom being spewed
