Fate of Star Wars

That does suck. I haven't played d20 SW in 3 years, but i own all the books, and they're among my favorite stuff from WotC. d20 may have it's problems, but i loved d20 star wars. The minis rock too. Oh well, at least i still have my old stuff and can pick up a game sometime...

I really like SWd20, but it's hard to find a game. My buddy who DMs it lost control of 1 game (which turned into D&D in space) and hasn't finished the other (a very cool, all-jedi Tempest Feud game). I couldn't get into a game at 2 cons--and 1 was GenCon. I got a complete set of Rebel Storm minis with the (new) hope that I could use them for an all-jedi game with WotC's free adventures; especially since there are no other adventures published that I can get (see above). Maybe the RPGA will release their Living Force scenarios if it's going away anyway.

Maybe a closed universe is better anyway. I only have the 2 core rulebooks. I prefer the Revised version, but I never got any of the sourcebooks. Perhaps that's why the RPG line is dead but the minis are selling like hotcakes. Well, it was fun while it lasted.

Possibly, but it'd require re-negotiation of the author contracts for the first 2-3 years of the campaign. My understanding is that they've changed the author contracts, but the old contracts only gave the RPGA publishing rights for "tournament play." Collecting / republishing those mods would require new contracts.

That said, I seem to recall Morrie Mullins (the former LF plot director) saying that he'd be happy to work with RPGA on republishing the old stuff.

At any rate, the RPGA would probably still not see it as a zero-cost operation, so I wouldn't be holding my breath.

I guess a few more years dormant...

Until the re-release of Stars Wars IV-VI Anniversary Gungan Edition in 2010 where human characters are replaced by Gungans and the blasters are replaced by cell phones. :]

I can't believe that WotC doesn't realize that the majority of people who buy SWMinis buy them for their RPG...

or am I the only one?

No, you're not the only one. And, I guarantee you that WotC realizes a lot (not sure I'd say "the majority") of people who buy SW Minis use them for the RPG.

It comes down to profitability. WotC makes more money (probably a *lot* more money) on the minis than they did on RPG releases. The minis are covered by the same license with Lucasfilm that the RPG was, and that license limits WotC to no more than six releases per year. So, any one of those six releases that WotC was to put to the RPG, rather than the Minis line, would represent an opportunity cost to WotC.
