Father's Day Gift for a buddy

BiggusGeekus

That's Latin for "cool"
My buddy, whom I shall assign the pseudonym of "Gigantor", is looking forward to a Father's Day gift. He doesn't get to game much, he doesn't have a lot of gaming stuff, and this is a tight budget (we don't want to give Mrs. Gigantor sticker shock). He wants a gaming book, but let's face it: he's probably only going to be able to read it and he won't get to "use" it much.

I have reccomended the Dragon CD-ROM or a subscription to Dragon.

What would you suggest?

Maybe a couple pdf products? How about a community supporter account with ENWorld?

Yeah, I mentioned PDFs, but I get the impression he wants a "book" as in something he can hold. I'll grant you that one can print out a PDF but that may not be the same for him.

The EN World account is a good idea. I'm not sure he knows how much is here.

I cannot suggest the Dragon Archive CD strongly enough to do it justice!

I took all 5 of the CDs and burned them onto a single DVD to eliminate CD swapping, but it's a great buy no matter how you do it.

Wait a second....

...aren't father's day gifts supposed to be given to the father by the children...?

ANYway, that sounds like a good idea, go for it.:) How about a set of pewter dice engraves with his initials or some such? A bit costly, but a REALLY good gift.

The Dragon Archive CD is certainly a good idea, there is plenty to read there, but it's not a "book" like he has asked for.

I'm partial to monster books, so I'm going to say either the Monsternomicon by Priavateer Press or Tome of Horrors by Necromancer Games. As for a book to just sit down and read, I'd also suggest the Kindoms of Kalamar setting book. There's a ton of info there, and the world is very well developed.

HHmm.. If she's on a tight budget for the gift, how about printing up a book of "I'm going to game with my friends" coupons for him. As long as he cashes in the coupon X days in advance, she'll let him game with friends on that day..
just a thought, of course nothing says she couldn't give him the book and the coupons.
