Favored class alternate rule

I know I have seen this here before and I apologize for reposting it but I can't find the original thread.

Re-writing my player's guide and I am going to change the favored race rule from a negative to a bonus. Basically the favored race will grant a +1 skill point per level.

Anyone see any landmines with this approach or was this the exact rule that was posted here originally??

Thanks for the understanding.

I don't think favored class rules need to be in effect at all. The ability score modifiers themselves create the favorable or unfavorable class combinations (or should - change elf scores to suit wizards).

I simply disregard the favorable class rules as written, as they are simply some kind of homage to the old class level limits from older editions.

Halflings make great rogues...period. Half-orcs are better suited to be barbarians... period. The additional rules are just unnecessary.

Some classes benefit a lot more from a single skill point than others.

Rogues already get a ton of skill points-- and they rarely need more. They can cover all their bases unless they've got a low Int or they're trying to cover multiple archetypes.

Sorcerors need to keep three skills maxed, but they only get two skill points without an Int bonus-- and they have no other reason for a high Int.

I charge for literacy and languages in my campaign do more skill points are always welcome.

I also allow Sorcerers to know more spells for high Int. Not that it happens often.
