Favored Soul the Sorcerer of the Divine

First Post
I was designing a build for a new player, new as in no role play experience. He wanted a spellcaster sooo I decided to make him a Favored Soul. This group is starting out at 5th level.

Dont have the books so could someone tell me spells for a 18 cha 5th Favored Soul?

Do you think this is a good class for a newby, considering he requested a spellcaster?

The Favored Soul is a little more forgiving, so yes, I would say it's a pretty newbie-friendly class. Limited spell choice is always a good thing for beginning players of spellcasting classes, a Cleric or Wizard could be a little overwhelming. A Warmage might also work well, depending on what type of spellcaster the player would like. :)

I've started Age of Worms with players that haven't played much 3.0/3.5. One is a Favored Soul, and one is a Warmage. It's ideal, I think, for new players, since they'll have enough things to think about without needing to learn every spell in the PHB.

This said, at 5th level, he'll know 6 orisons, 5 1st-level spells and 3 2nd-level spells. To keep it simple and still have some variety, I suggest the following spells (PHB only):
0 - Create Water, Cure Minor Wounds, Detect Magic, Light, Mending, Read Magic
1 - Bless, Comprehend Languages, Cure Light Wounds, Sanctuary, Shield of Faith
2 - Bull's Strength, Sound Burst, Summon Monster II (you prepare the summons in advance and he doesn't get to choose what comes),

(of course, the spell he chooses depends much on the spells available to the other spellcasters in the group...)

Hope this helps!

What does the rest of the party look like? Off-hand, a 5th level FS for a newbie, who wants to cast spells:

Human FS 5:
Feats: Improved Initiative, Spell Focus (enchantment), Power Blow

Spells
0 create water, cure minor wounds, detect magic, light, mending, resistance
1 bless, comprehend languages, cure light wounds, magic weapon, shield of faith
2 aid, hold person, lesser restoration

I'm assuming this character is going to stand in partially for a cleric, which means the ability to repair ability damage is vital. Aid is a nice buff, hold person will give him something to throw at bad guys. Magic weapon is always handy, as is bless. Spell Focus is to help with Wisdom dependency.
