FAVORED SOUL: Uh, no Knowledge (religion)???

Um, is there a typo or errata I am missing in Complete Divine because it appears the Favored Soul does not have Knowledge (religion) as a class skill...

Yet they have Knowledge (arcana)?

Really confused. Please tell me it's a typo?

Knowledge Arcana doesn't mean arcane spells. In fact, to identify those types of things you'd use SpellCraft. While I think they should get Knowledge Religion as well they are not clerics. Something like they've tapped into their deity's spellpool and cast certain ones and that's it. Similar to a sorcerer in that fashion.

Knowledge Arcana: ancient mysteries, magic traditions, arcane symbols, cryptic phrases, constructs, dragons, magical beasts

Knowledge Religion: gods and goddesses, mythic history, ecclesiastic tradition, holy symbols, undead

Really none of the religion truly fits favoured soul that greatly.

Does Knowledge Arcana fit there? Perhaps it's an ancient mystery as to why Favored soul get's monk saves, weapon focus and spec, wings, enough known spells to be very useful in place of a cleric, and DR 10/cold iron or silver. I suppose being a level behind and losing turning can hurt but seems a bit off. Espcially when you can take another PrC to gain turning if you want.

It almost makes sense but not really. Hope this helps answer though

Well, it seems like Razz wants to continue the discussion, but what's to continue in terms of a rules forum discussion?

"Favored souls don't have Knowledge Skill (religion) as a class skill?"

"Nope, they sure don't."

"Isn't that weird?"

"Opinions vary."

"Oh, OK...."

Personally, I think the option should be there, both for flavor and for mechanical purposes (as it part of the requirements for a good many PrC's that suit the FS).

The Dead Levels article was a good response I thought. In fact, I had never read those articles, and they seem to be really good.
