Favored Soul without wings?

I like the Favored Soul from Complete Divine, but I'm not crazy about growing wings at 17th level. What is an equivalent class feature that could be substituted? Just granting the fly ability (as the spell) at will... would that be OK in the eyes of the sages here at EN World? I submit myself to your judgment.

(I'm not crazy about the ability to fly in general... it just seems a little hokey to me. I'm looking for something else...)

My own house ruling on this is that the blessing thingy at said level reflects whatever deity the Favoured Soul is 'connected to'. So wings might not be appropriate at all. Or they might be.

Of course, when it comes to someone actually creating one as a PC, I'll figure out the game mechanics detail then and there, probably collaboratively (with the player.)

Hope that's even slightly interesting, if not helpful.

I borrowed CD from someone once, so I have a vague idea of the ability but don't know the specifics off the top of my head -- just stating that in case something i suggest is way off the mark.

How about another ability of about 3rd arcane spell level of lower (either 'on demand' or a number of times per day kind of thing).

Or else a really cool feat.

or a divine feat that has a number of uses per day (and say that it is fueled by something similar to turning uses if they don't already have turnings per day without actually giving them turn undead uses per day just some ability that is used just for fueling the divine feats).

maybe another domain (or do they already have three?)

or two domain spell slots per spell level instead of one (don't remember if they get domain spells per level so never mind if i'm wrong here).

in any case, i'd say something tied to the patron diety ...

Is this too powerful:

Mystic Union. Become a magical creature, treated as an outsider of the deity's home plane, DR 20/magic. (lifted from Manual of Planes Divine Agent prestige class).

Or how about Menacing Aura, as archons have?

Turn Undead. Favored Soul is insanely weak, and why shouldn’t a person powered by the deity itself not be able to turn/rebuke undead when those that worship a deity in a earthly way can? (it’s never set well with me)

flying by wings and fly spell at will is not the same. You can dispel a fly spell. A fly spell do not work in an anti-magic field.
With wings you can not wear all sorts of armors.
If you want to fly but dislike that your enemies see your wings than let a wizards cast a permanent partial invisibility on your wings only.

DR 20/magic does not work at all in 3.5. 5 or maybe 10 is as much as a PC should get as a class ability. My personal suggestion is cure serious on self-only as spell like ability 3 times per day (or whatever). Not at all exciting, but very useful. If the DM wants to have the soul be very favored indeed, he/she could have the cure serious go off whenver a stabilization check is needed (assuming it is not used up for the day).

Well... the whole exercise started because I want a spontaneous divine caster. I compared the Evangelist (from Dragon 311), the option in Unearthed Arcana, and this one from Complete Divine. Each is subtly different.

I settled on Favored Soul, but just don't like the wings.

I like adding Turn Undead (how did I not notice it was missing?!), but don't want to wait until 17th level to add it back in.

Then don't... I've played the class with full Turn Undead before and it’s rarely no powerful than the cleric.

Note: The cleric still gets sphere and their special abilities they grant so it’s not as overkill as one would think. :)
