I haven't played 3.5 in a long time and don't have my books right now. Could someone sum up the Favored Soul?

Spell Progression like a Sorcerer?
CHA is the main stat for spells?
d8 hit dice?
Cleric BAB progression?
3 good saves?
Weapon focus at 3rd level?

Your memory is admirable.

Spell Progression like a Sorcerer?
Yes.

CHA is the main stat for spells?
Yes.

d8 hit dice?
Yes.

Cleric BAB progression?
Yes.

3 good saves?
Yes.

Weapon focus at 3rd level?
With deity's favoured weapon, yes.

You're like a cleric, but worse, and with less supporting materials. You're still one of the most powerful classes published.

Yes. I'd earlier considered responding to the question, "Could someone sum up the Favored Soul?", with, "A tier 2 cleric?"

I find that if you combine the worst features of both the cleric and the favored soul (prepared spells, spell progression like a cleric, known spells like a favored soul), you still end up with a sufficiently powerful and fun to play class. It's amazing how OP the full casters are.

It's less peak power, but you make up for it by never having the wrong spell prepared at the moment, or the right spells in the wrong numbers.

For a certain type of player, a Favored Soul is much more effective than a Cleric.

On the other hand, you can certainly learn the wrong spell, which is its own headache.

It's a Trap!

It's one of those classes that looks good at a distance, but when you actually start playing it is horrible. Clerics already have many options for getting spontaneous casting. The need for both Wisdom and Charisma makes the Favored Souls a MAD class. Charisma for number of spells, the Wisdom for DCs. No other spellcasting class does this.

It has spell progression as a sorcerer, yet it has the lousy spell selection of a cleric. It doesn't get the perks of turn undead or domains. With Various ACFs and Initiate Feats, you can make a better Favored Soul with a cleric then a favored soul.
