The first boxed set (for 2e). I Like the pre conjunction setting with Azalin in charge of the closest thing to a standard D&D magic area in Ravenloft. I've run a couple of campaigns in this version of the setting.

I love how the 3e campaign setting book is appropriate for PCs to read straight through without hints but no spoilers for the countries and darklords and leaves DMs room to build upon.

I own the 1st boxed set, House of Strahd, Domains of Dread, and the 3e Ravenloft CS. I've played in Expedition to Castle Ravenloft.

The 3E version, because they mellowed out the setting to where I was able to run a campaign from level 1 to level 12, with a Paladin in the group. However I own and love pretty much anything Ravenloft.

Ditto (except on the "played Expedition..." bit).

The Black Box is wonderfully moody for me (in no small part thanks to Stephen Fabian's artwork... best Strahd ever!).

I'd say Domains of Dread and the 3.0 releases by Arthaus are tied for second. The idea of putting all the "secrets" of Ravenloft in another book was amazing.

Domains of Dread for 2e.

I personally loathe boxed sets, and the 3e/3.5e releases were okay, but lost a lot of the flavor that made Ravenloft what it was. I6/House of Strahd is cool as an adventure, but not as a setting itself. I've not read Expedition… yet but, again, it's an adventure rather than a true setting.

My introduction to Ravenloft was through the second boxed set.

I fell in love with it and continue to use to this date. I own a good portion of the 3E RL stuff and do like it.

3E RL seems like a good update from 2E but I think it loses a little of its awe.

I think it lost some of its awe because of how DRYLY written a lot of the 3E material was. I had no problems remembering several mono tone teachers I had in my school days while reading a lot of the 3E material.

I6 was a great module with one exception - the cover - as a key plot to the module was the mystery of the vampire and yet they put out this huge spoiler by having a Dracula-like vampire front-and-center on the module!
