Tough call, I always liked both the Crane and the Scorpion. But I have lots of respect for the Mantis clan. If you've ever read any of the stories for the history, Yoritomo was the man. My vote was Mantis.

Voted for Dragon since they just rule and I play them in Clan War. Scorpion are a very close second, but you forgot the best of all: Shadowlands! After reading AEG's best L5R book, Bearers of Jade, you get a real feel for the True soul of the empire, not the meaningless fascade the emperors flunkies try to portray. Simply an amazing book.

Although all truth be told I have not read that book, if I had I probably would have added the Shadowlands to the list.

the two times I have played L5R I played a Crab... first time was the mage type (can't spell right now so will not try) and the other was a Samurai. I guess I just liked playing a barbarian kind of character in such civilized lands

Ahhh, dragon and scorpion....one is an enigma wrapped in a mystery, and the other would sacrifice anything for duty, even their honor. What a pair.
