Favorite Warlord Moments?

The only way this dragon - who, it turned out, the DM had planned as a recurring foe
This plan never works out. Never ever.

I guess it's best to pretend every NPC could be a recurring villain and have the NPCs run early and often. Maybe one or two will make it and actually get to "recur" then.

Just to add this one: My favorite moment is sitting on my chair, leaning back, having the fighter or striker flaking the enemy with my warlord and then just handing out MBAs with commander's strike. "Hey, [name of striker or defender in here] do a melee basic." No role, good damage, works always. It's just nice to be able to do it :) But tactical warlord is more useful the larger the group. Grant OA here, grant MBA there... It does no good, if there is not at least one ally next to you or the target. That's quite a pain in the ass with a 3 player group. But that shouldn't be a problem with 4 or more players. And with scale armor prof, until now the AC if fine for front line.

Yesterday we had a duel - the fighter vs an NPC gladiator. With my warlord yelling "encouragement" from the sidelines. (Read: Direct the Strike). Meant to be a fair match. Not with the fighter swinging twice as often as the gladiator...

Bringing new meaning to the phrase, "Save the cheerleader, save the world". :p

I'll be honest I haven't played 4E yet, but I am running a game right now, and although we are only 6th level. What I can say is that no matter what class the player is playing, there are going to be situations where certain people shine and be memorable.

In one of my sessions, the chips were down, almost the entire party was bloodied, one player was down and in one round the warlord crit the big baddie with his daily boosting everyones defenses by one and giving them all temporary hitpoints, action pointed and walloped him again with an encounter allowing the melee striker to put him down with a MBA, and with a minor had the unconcious player back on his feet.

Of course in another session he didn't roll above a 5 and missed with everything, but still had an impact by providing flanks, and had a few powers with effects, allowing a player to make a key saving throw to get out of a restrained condition.

But this goes for all the players, some encounters certain classes and players will shine and in others they won't. It's just the way the cookie crumbles. I think no matter what class you play in 4th edtion you'll have your day in the sun, and when that happens just hope your not a vampire. :)
