Favoured Soul: Type-o?

Aquatica

First Post
Hi all,

Does anyone know if the Favoured Soul (CDiv) is supposed to use WIS and CHA for spellcasting? From the text it says it's WIS for DCs and CHA for bonus slots. Is that an error or correct?

Thanks

I believe Wis for DC and Cha for spell access and bonus spells is how it's supposed to be played. This makes the favored soul into less of a direct spell attacker and more of a buffer. In the last campaign played by my group, there was a favored soul which was considered to be one of the most valuable members of the party (along with the warmage).

As a side note, I thought the more glaring possible typo was that the favored soul gets Knowledge (arcana) as a class skill instead of Knowledge (religion). ;)

Wow, I just joined this forum, and find the exact same argument I was having with my friends about this class last session.

I don't think the Favored Soul knowing Knowledge(Arcana) is a typo. I figure they had to give them ONE of the Knowledges as a class skill since every class seems to have one, and on the surface it appears that Knowledge (Religion) would be the best choice for them, being holy charaters and all... but Knowledge(Religion) implies a character having precisely the type of clerical study and training in his/her background that the class eschews, does not need, and is held at arm's length by "proper" clerics due to not requiring in order to cast divine spells.

Of course, my DM disagreed with me and changed the skill to Knowledge(Religion), so I doubt my interpretation of the class is universal.

So Clerics are more willing to teach Wizards than Favored Souls who work for their own church?

No, but wizards are more likely to seek out that knowledge themselves. :)

I also think it's ok for them not to have Knowledge (religion), though it does hinder them at epic levels, where that skill is quite important AFAIK (not really playing epic). It does appear a bit weird, however, that's for sure.

The split casting ability is not such a big deal. I have a Favored Soul character with a Wis of 9. Works fine. *shrug*

It makes PERFECT sence. :]

You are your deity's favored soul, no need for you to know too much about other gods.
