Favourite Names for Weapons

I love naming my character's gear-
- Thunder - a MW Mighty (+4) Long Bow +1 - Shocking - this bow will have thundering on it, and as many bonus as I can get

- Flint - Long sword +1 - was going to have Flaming and such on it, but got the next sword before that could happen.

- Sliver - Adamantine Long Sword +1 - Construct Bane

A few none weapon named magic items-
- Wolf's Head Pendent - Amulet of Natural Armor +2 - started at +1, is going all the way to +5 if I can manage it

- The Dolphin Ring - Ring of Swimming

- Web Bracers - Bracers of Defense +4 - picked off a dead Drow in some UnderDark campaign

- The Red Belt - Belt of Many Pockets that once belonged to a legendary sorcerer that was known as The Red Witch

- Black Wing Ring - Ring of Communication (slotless) - I like the whole "dark wings, dark words," thing.

There are more, but I have go go right now, and its doubtful that I am entertaining anyone other then myself with this. Have fun

Deathblow - +2 Vicious Adamantine Morning Star

Vex - a cursed dagger that gets more powerful with each strike at a particular enemy, but then becomes a cursed berserking weapon

Havoc - a minor artifact of chaos, a longsword that causes a Rod of Wonder effect on a critical, or critical fumble

Giantbiter - Dwarven waraxe, giant bane

Stahlkuss ("Kiss of Steel") - dwarven returning throwing axe

Morning Glory -- essentially a sunsword in Maul form; had a violet hammerhead (hee hee) that could detect undead in a 60' radius.

Steel Thunder -- created from a d20 Diablo ruleset; +3 keen thundering longsword and 3d6 lightning damage per hit.

White Fang -- a weapon I haven't made yet, was going to be a holy avenger themed dagger for Druids.

Black Talon -- the inverse of White Fang, for evil Druids. Each dagger would be semi-intelligent, and urge the wielders to seek out the bearers of each and slay them.

Judge and Jury -- a pair of snazzy pistols, forget what type they were.

Far and away the best is...

Burne's Heremetic Destructive Engine -- it's a, well, I should let the man who thought it up explain...

Rolzup said:
Imagine, if you will, a crossbow. A large crossbow, in point of fact, perhaps even awkwardly so. Then make it a bit bigger than that. And there you have the heart of Burne’s Heremetic Destructive Engine.

To this enormous crossbow, one should then bolt a second, slightly smaller crossbow. And then attach a third crossbow, of rather more modest size.

Next? A series of lenses, each with a dedicated purpose. Abd then various rods, tubes, and cylinders of varying construction -- copper, glass, steel, oricalchum -- are connected, each jutting out at a precisely calculated angle, to function as emitters, thaumic resonators, and focusing devices.

Finally, a cunning arrangement of gears, ratchets, and levers is used to operate the Engine to full effect.

And there you have it. The single greatest implement of magical destruction ever created. Using the Engine, one can create and apply Alchemical preparations with astonishing speed and efficiency, far greater than anything previously imagined. More, it infuses the Art with an alchemical property known as "moxie", which has a value beyond stating.

Runner-up goes to...

The Size-Malleable, Self-Winding Phlogistonic Gryphon Prototype Alpha by Magnus Gyrefalcon the Magnanimous -- my homebrew's version of the Figurine of Wonderous Power: Brozne Griffon, which is more 1) robotic, 2) heavily armored and 3) British than the standard RAW model. It's also capable of VTOL flight.

Back in a 2E game I played in, the DM created a custom weapon for one of the fighters:

Astral Storm - the sword usually existed in the astral plane, but whoever wore the ring it was attuned to could summon it instantly. It also had some thunder and lightning related powers.

...and another custom sword from an old game I ran:

Clash - a bastard sword that, when struck against a solid surface, set up vibrations in the blade that could be released as a thunderclap effect. It was inspired by a weapon I remember seeing in a D&D cartoon.

first three that come to mind....

Bonecrusher (2e/3e): +1 maul. Used by one of the few 2e characters I converted over to 3e when it came out (most attempts at this just didn't feel right). Thavis McDougall was a 5ft tall human barbarian who could easily be mistaken for a dwarf in the right lighting. He wielded his ancestral weapon and layed waste to perhaps hundreds of skeletal undead (counting a Lich or two).

Drowbane (2e+): In my old 2e group "drowbane" is used to describe this blade about as often as it is the deadly dark elven swordsman who wielded it. Janus Nasadra had... issues... with his own kind. I played the character roughly 5 yrs, he had that blade for 4 of those. It was a (2e) katana forged of Baatorian Greensteel and enchanted to slay... (what for it!!) D R O W. Shocker, huh? The mere forging of this blade was hook for no fewer than three adventures. I've been meaning to stat out Janus and his blade in 3e... (+5 keen holy drowbane katana... sounds about right. I guess I'd have to dig up the old 2e rules on Baatorian Greensteel though).

Elemental Wrath (3e): One of my early 3e DMs (some of you know him as Talath) converted and ran the Return to the Tomb of Horrors back in 01' (?). We started at lvl 18 and I brought in a human Half Celestial Cleric 15 who fancied himself as the Angel of Death. His weapon of choice was this Adamantine (+2 enhancement bonus back then) Great Scimitar with acid, cold, electricity, fire and sonic burst (+2 equiv each). He only critted on a 15+... but he typically dropped whatever it was whenever it happened. Sadly, he lost his face to some fiendish item in the Fortress of Conclusion (one of the last three PCs to survive that long... he died earlier to a trio of vampires... but he got better).

Good times.

Honorable Mention (edit)~

Razorshard (3e): Animal Companion of a (talenta-style) Halfling Druid. I've played this concept twice now...
Original: the clawfoot animal companion of Rin Kresk, talenta halfling "shaman" (druid 5 / beast master 1 w/natural bond).
Current: The newer version is the fleshraker (MMIII) animal companion of Pesci Kresk... talenta halfling "shaman" (druid 7 | barbarian 1 / battle dancer 1 / ninja 3 / swordsage 1 / beastmaster 1)
In both parties, Razorshard *was/is* the defacto "party tank".

Named Weapons

My (CN) half-orc barbarian had a masterwork glaive called Elf Cleaver, made from orcish steel and a frost giant's femur. Its name was engraved on the blade in Dethek runes.

My (CG) half-orc ranger had a +1 corrosive vakar bastard sword that he jokingly named Elf Eater.

I also designed a greatsword known as Spitereaver for my Myth Drannor campaign (see attachment).
