Feat: Indomitable

WotC's bitch
Another feat to make Cha less of a dump stat.

Indomitable [General, Fighter]

You can withstand the slings and arrows of your foes.

Prereqs: Cha 15+, BAB +1.

Benefit: You gain a +1 bonus to AC. This bonus is lost if you are ever stunned, helpless, unconscious, or under the influence of a fear effect.

(Rationale for how it works? "It's magic." Charisma is all mystical in 3E anyhow.)

I like it.

Maybe increase the BAB requirement? Keep it out of the grubby hands of those stinky sorcerers and bards for a little longer? This strikes me as a fighter-oriented feat, from the name and description.

If your goal is to make Charisma less of a dump stat, maybe the best thing to do is create an entire line of Charisma-based combat-oriented feats. Do you have other feats in mind that would go along with this one?

Well, yeah, by "dump stat" I obviously mean for those classes for which it isn't their lifeline. :)

The only other Cha-based feat I've got so far is Fortune's Favour. I wasn't planning on creating a whole feat chain based on this; all I want is to give fighters, barbs and rangers an incentive not to put their lowest stat in Cha all the time. Although the more feats the better, naturally.

It'd be better with a more rational way of it working. I realize charisma is poorly defined. How about linking it with D&Dg by having it be the same type of bonus gods get. All gods get a bonus equal to their Cha bonus to AC.

Eh. Given the uses that Cha is put to in 3E, "it's magic" is about all you can really hope for. I refuse to get into involved handwaving where some mystical force of personality is concerned.

I haven't got D&Dg, and don't really plan to get it. From all accounts, the mechanics in that are FUBAR anyway.

Hey, Hong, why not give the fighters some Cha based skills?

Um, why? Their job is to fight. I'd rather make Cha more relevant to their job, as opposed to expanding their job description to use Cha.

A revised version, after thinking it over:

Indomitable [General]

Your strength of spirit enables you to better withstand the slings and arrows of your foes.

Prereqs: Cha 13+, BAB +2.

Benefit: You gain a +1 luck bonus to AC. This bonus is lost if you are stunned, helpless, unconscious, or under the influence of a fear effect.

Yes, but the Fighter gets *sucky* skills. Their job is to fight, but it's hard on the Fighter character to have little use Out of combat.

Fighters Atleast should get Intimidate. If a barbarian can intimidate by scaring someone with brutal force, their speciality, then so should a fighter, with their skill.

I add Intimidate as a class skill for fighters, yes (doesn't everyone?). In the end, though, a fighter is simply not a skill guy, he's a feat and attack bonus guy. Adding more skills to the class list isn't going to make him a much better fighter.

Well, right. But a barbarian's skills aren't going to make him rage any more powerful.

A fighter gets 2+int. He should atleast have somewhere more helpfull to put it then 'Ooh, if I ever get on a horse, I won't fall off!'.

As it's set, a fighter has no reason to put good numbers in Cha, Int, or Wis, unless he wants to multi into a spellcaster class. Why play a smart, insightful, or attractive fighter when he can have Oodles of HPs and Dex?
