Feat per level

This change would reduce the value of the Human racial abilities, and would likewise reduce the (relative) value of the Fighter class.

It also removes a lot of the motivation and mechanical reason to stay in the Wizard base class.

Personally, I like it, but I'd then replace the Fighter with something else to represent the generic butt-kicking guy.

I'd like playing in a group that tried this. All those Heritage feats would be sweet. I'd actually consider playing a Sorcerer. :)

totally agree, this highly devalues fighters/humans. good point on wizards too
allowing srd only helps restrict power creep somewhat, but the popularity of fighters/humans would drop sharply

and forgive me if i'm wrong, but didnt you previously argue feat-a-level didnt devalue certain classes?
if so, what changed your mind

Did I? Don't recall. :) If so, then what could have changed my mind would be a more careful analysis of the mid-to-high level Cleric, and the excellent non-Core feats in sources like PHB-II.

We've been doing this for a while. Players still play fighters and they still play humans. And even at levels epic it really has yet to cause a problem for us.

My group has done this for several months now... and my characters still feel feat starved!

But trying to make a "normal" character now hurts my head (wtf? only 3 feats at lvl 6....??)

Cool, thanks for so many responses. At least I haven't heard any horror stories about builds running amok with power, so I think I'll make the change.

I am concerned that fighters would disappear. But having a fighter loaded up with feats becomes a much better warrior. He's more prepared for situation changes, and a fighter can even build for ranged and melee. He probably has the option to choose between trip, sunder, disarm, etc. instead of being a one-trick pony.

Wizards still get the spell progression over sorcerers, making them a viable class. Besides, who becomes a wizard due to the feats?

Humans become a little less attractive for builds, but skills and general middle-of-the-road stats are easy to plan around.

Sticking with the SRD keeps it simple to generate new characters after getting toasted half way through the adventure. It also allows more concentration on in-game deeds instead of researching books to find an uber build that doesn't care if he peeves off the king/emperor/SuperBBEG/Eric's Grandmother.
